WGY is one of the country's oldest radio stations, as well as the Captital Region's largest News/Talk radio station. There is no round-the-clock news; there are news updates every half hour, except in cases of breaking news or inclement weather. Updates at the top of the hour are generally 6-8 minutes long. They generally include 2 minutes Fox News Radio national news, a few minutes of local news, the WGY Storm Team forecast, and occasionaly traffic updates and sports scores. Updates at the half-hour are scaled down, usually a lead national story, some local news, and the Weather. The only exception is the Don Weeks and the WGY Morning News Show (Weekdays 5:30-9) where are there are local news updates at 20 and 50 past the hour, sports updates at 15 and 45, and "Traffic and Weather on the Eights" to go along with the normal news updates.
WGY airs many well-known national personalities, including Rush Limbaugh,Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Phil Hendrie, Kim Komando, and George Noory (Coast to Coast AM). There are also several shows hosted by local personalities, such as Andrew Wilkow, Al Roney, Joe Gallaghar, and Ed Martin. WGY carried ABC News Radio until August 2005, when Clear Channel Communications switched all of its News/talk radio stations to Fox News Radio.
WGY is also a Clear Channel station, in that it is owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications.
Mike Gallagher hosted a afternoon show at WGY for a while before moving downstate to WABC-AM.[1] He has since left WABC and is part of the Salem Radio Network.
