Å (Swedish pronunciation: [oː], from å "stream") is a village in the municipality of Moskenes, in Lofoten, Norway.
Å is traditionally a fishing village, specialising in stockfish, but now also features tourism. The town contains the Lofoten Stockfish Museum and the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. It is served by European route E10; this part of it is also called King Olav's Road.
The place is sometimes referred to as Å i Lofoten ("i" means "in") to distinguish it from other places named Å. It has the postal address 8392 Sørvågen.
In May 2004 it became the starting point of a cycling trip from A to B (with B represented by Bee, Nebraska).[1]
The name
The village (originally a farm) is first mentioned in 1567 ("Aa"). The name is from Norse á f '(small) river'.
