Samuel Nevill
The Most Reverend[1] Samuel Tarratt Nevill, DD[2] (born 13 May 1837 in Nottingham, England - died 29 October 1921 at Bishopsgrove, near Dunedin, New Zealand)[3] was the first Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Dunedin in Dunedin, New Zealand[4]. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge and ordained in 1860. He was Curate of St Mark, Scarisbrick[5] then Rector of Shelton, Staffordshire where he served until his elevation to the Episcopate. The Nevill Chapel of St. Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin is named after him. St Paul's has a carving depicting the Bishop holding a model of the Cathedral's proposed design. He was Primate of the church in New Zealand from 1904-1919[6]. Nevill was buried at St Barnabas Church, Warrington.
