The Red Oaks School is an independent elementary school and preschool located in Morristown, New Jersey. Founded in 1965 as an early childhood Montessori school, Red Oaks has 185 students from age 3 years through 6th grade. Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and by the American Montessori Society, and a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, the school serves populations in Essex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Union counties.

Red Oaks Head of School Marilyn E. Stewart is also current President of the American Montessori Society.

The stated mission of The Red Oaks School is: “To lay the foundation for students to be engaged global citizens, equipped with 21st century skills. Our dynamic curriculum is based on core Montessori principles, enhanced by current educational research. The Red Oaks School provides a culturally diverse environment in which students develop a love of learning, a strong social conscience, and a spirit of discovery as they pursue their full academic and personal potential.”

The Upper Elementary (grades 4-6) curriculum participates in the Montessori Middle School Model United Nations (MMUN). Through this interdisciplinary, global education program, students engage in study of the United Nations itself as well as specific countries they will be representing. Following months of in-depth research, in-class discussion, practice of parliamentary procedure, analysis of key issues and development of position papers, students join other Montessori students from around the country for a 3-day national MMUN conference in New York City. Just as in the real UN, these students work in their committees to help solve some of the most pressing problems of the world by collaborating to craft formal UN resolutions. The experience culminates in a general assembly session held at the actual UN building in New York where the students put their resolutions to a full vote.
