Bruce Golding was the founder of the Jamaican National Democratic Movement (NDM). Formerly the chairman of the Jamaican Labour Party (JLP) before he and others felt the need to split and form the new NDM in 1995. He is now the leader of the JLP, having ascended to that post on February 20, 2005. Golding is a second-generation member of the JLP, his father, Tacius, having served as a member of parliament, and Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 1960s.
