Perth High School is a six-year, non-denominational comprehensive secondary school, located in Perth, Scotland. The school opened in 1971, two years after the opening in 1969 of the adjacent Oakbank Primary School. It stands in extensive grounds occupying a position on a hill overlooking the Glasgow Road.

School accommodation

The building consists of a modern complex centered on a four-storey main teaching block housing English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Modern Languages, History, Modern Studies, Home Economics, Art and Design, Computing and Business Studies as well as a large pupil social area. The main teaching block is accompanied by an extensive ground floor accommodation housing Technology, Geography, Classics, Religious & Moral Education, Music and Physical Education as well as the Library, the Assembly Hall and the Dining Halls. The school contains two computer suites encompassing eight computer rooms containing modern hardware and software (over 350 PC systems). It is supported by a whole-school computer network with Internet and Intranet facilities. The school's new development has new airport styled seating areas throughout the concourse. The concourse area has also been split into two parts separating the juniors from third and fourth years and the new extension to the front of the school has meant there is a new social area for the seniors. The campus contains spacious grounds, as well as playing fields. The school gives particular emphasis to environmental issues and the grounds contain a number of specialised environmental project areas. A small area of the campus is shared with Oakbank Primary School.

School aims

The school's current mission statement:

"The school sets out to develop the talents of each individual pupil as fully as possible. The pupils are encouraged to set their own personal standards of excellence in all aspects of their lives - the academic, the practical, the sporting and in their social development. The staff attempts to help the pupils achieve these standards and thereby foster a sense of pride in each pupil. They hope that their pupils will take a pride in their own achievements, in their school, in their local community and in their country."

Catering

There are two dining areas in the school which operate a cafeteria system and pupils pay for what they choose. A range of main courses and desserts are provided every day as well as a wide variety of snacks.

Community Partnership

The School values its connections with the wider world and with its local community. They have contacts with:

  • Their local council and councillors;
  • Their local Members of Parliament;
  • Local churches and religious bodies;
  • Local youth organisations;
  • The Community Education service;
  • Local community organisations;
  • The Viewlands Venture;
  • Local environmental agencies.

The school also has strong links with the three local Rotary Clubs, particularly with the Kinnoull club who sponsor ots Interact Club for senior pupils and provide opportunities for their young people through the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, mock interviews, etc.

Subjects

Recently the school has added many new subjects to give the pupil a wider choice of things to pick for third and fourth year. Since they have good connection with Perth College, some subjects are taught there, like Motor Mechanics.[citation needed]
