Ganga Prasad Vimal
Well known writer Ganga Prasad Vimal was born in 1939 in a small Himalayan village of Uttaranchal province of India. He was educated at various colleges and universities. He secured top grades, creating a record in his Masters examination and was awarded University Fellowship of Punjab University. He was awarded Doctoral degree in 1965, working an inter-disciplinary subject. After short stint as a freelance writer, he edited the weekly 'Deshsewa' besides actively engaging himself in student politics. He began teaching in a Delhi University College in 1964, and after putting in a service of a quarter of a century, moved on to head a central government department where he worked for 8 years. He held the position of the chairperson during 1999 - 2000 at the Centre of Indian Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and continued to be the Professor there until 2004.
