Osamu Shimomura

Osamu Shimomura (b. 1928 in Kyoto) is a Japanese scientist.[1] He holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Nagoya University and is Professor Emeritus at Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and Boston University Medical School.[2] He shares the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with Martin Chalfie and Roger Tsien "for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP".[3] He is known for his work with aequorea victoria.
