Llanwrin
Llanwrin () is a small village in the valley of the Afon Dyfi in Powys about two miles north-east of Machynlleth. Historically, it was in the county of Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn). The village is named after its church, dedicated to St. Gwrin.
Once a thriving community with its own Blacksmiths, Public House and Shop, all long since closed, in recent years the village has been a collection of houses stretched along the B4404 road. During 2007, building work has started on some new houses near to the centre of the village, with a hope to revitalise the local area.
Llanwrin is famous locally, for its "Strawman" which occasionally appears sitting on the bench on the small triangle shaped village green. Nobody knows where he comes from, or where he suddenly disappears to, but he is missed when he is not around.
