Elliot Roosevelt is the brother of Teddy Roosevelt and the father of Eleanor Roosevelt, who would marry Franklin Roosevelt. At a young age, Elliot was academically less successful than Teddy, and he would try his best to best his older brother. When Elliot was 23, he met the beautiful Anna Hall, and they wed quickly, producing three children, Eleanor, Elliot Jr. and Hall. After this point, Elliot Sr. developed a "casual drinking" problem, which soon became alchoholism. Despite his drunkness, Eleanor simply adored him. Because of his drinking problem, he was exiled to Virginia, where he would constantly write letters, mostly to Eleanor. On occasion, he would, to the jubilation of Eleanor, back home for a few days. Finally, his drinking ruined him. At the age of 34, he tried committing suicide by jumping out a window, but failed, had a seizure, and died.
