Ulises Heureaux (1846-[[July 26], 1899 was [president of the Dominican Republic from 1882 to 1883 and again from April 30, [1889]] until his assassination, maintaining power between his two terms. During his time in office, the country's Economy of the Dominican Republic came largely under the control of the United States. Upon his death, the economy crumbled, prompting American military intervention there.
