The Hibernian
The Hibernian is a monthly Irish magazine to “Faith, Family and Country”.[1]
It was launched in May 2006, by Gerry McGeough, formerly a member of the Sinn Féin national executive, as editor, and Charles Byrne, a 28-year-old from Drogheda, who writes as "Cathal O Broin", the Irish-language version of his name. It is associated with the Ancient Order of Hibernians.[2] The magazine has been accused of being a "a publicity vehicle for McGeough and the extreme right in Ireland"[3]
The magazine advocates a form of "faith and fatherland" nationalism which emphasises the persecution of Catholics in previous centuries and sees Irish identity as inseparably bound up with Catholicism. It often publishes articles on Irish history written from this perspective, as well as devotional articles and political/social comment.
The magazine regularly promotes the Tridentine Rite of Mass, often in a manner sympathetic to the Society of St. Pius X and to sedevacantists.[4]
It has also promoted the activities of Fr. Nicholas Gruner, editor of FATIMA CRUSADER magazine, who accuses the Vatican of concealing the content of the Third Secret of Fatima. Fr. Gruner was suspended form the exercise of his priesthood in 1996 after refusing to close down his activities and return to the diocese of his incardination. ("Fr. It has published numerous articles alleging that the international banking system is run by money-manipulating conspirators (e.g. Helen McClafferty "The Illuminati and Bilderberg Conferences" HIBERNIAN February 2007 pp20-21 _"In 1776 the Illuminati set out to destroy nations and religions, private property and marriage. An article in the November 2007 refers to Cardinal John Henry Newman as an "sourpuss old Brit" (Cian uA rUAIRC "tHE AGONY AND TE ECSTASY" p.17.[citation needed]
