The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
I'm awarding you this RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar for your great contributions to protecting and reverting attacks of vandalism on Wikipedia. Wikidudeman (talk) 18:21, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much again! --Oxymoron83 18:25, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hurry

Please block the user who vandalised you! That user is making rampant vandalism edits on many pages! Navnløs 18:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He received a final warning for the nazi edit to my talk page and made no edits since them. If he continues to vandalize after that, please report to WP:AIV, I'm no admin and therefore can't block anybody. --Oxymoron83 19:00, 31 October 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hello, I'm thebestkiano. You have probably come across me in your anti-vandalism work (I have many times!). Vandalism by 195.195.14.1

Hi, About half a month ago, a user from IP 195.195.14.1 vandalised Huddersfield Town F.C.. I am a member of staff at Greenhead College and their account has now been blocked on our system. If you notice any further vandalism from this IP address, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll see that their account is disabled. Regards ~~ [Jam][talk] 16:59, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your efforts. I will try to do that but can't promise it as ip addresses are hard to bear in mind :) --Oxymoron83 17:07, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Funny how it is always the little brother who is the one vandalizing. ^_^ KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 18:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm waiting for the first editor who is at least a little bit creative and claims it was the little sister ... --Oxymoron83 18:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I find it's not always the little brother who was the one vandalising.....sometimes it was the son or young sons(yes plural) as I was once told. :D AngelOfSadness talk 18:38, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can count yourself lucky, some variety prevents you from being bored. :) --Oxymoron83 18:46, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's true, variety is good. I'm just waiting for the day when someone blames their pet (real or imaginary) on their own vandalism edits and then finally I'll be able to say "Yes it must have been your unicorn that redirected the apple page to Weird Al and replaced all the images with smily faces". :D AngelOfSadness talk 18:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In all fairness for that excuse, my cat did walk across the keyboard once while I was editing an article. I removed the asinine additions she created before I saved. But what if she had done it while I was getting a drink and I failed to notice it until it was already saved?! :P KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 19:05, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See now an excuse like that is believable and possibly happens every week to many pet owners all over the world. Its the people who blame their goldfish on edits like this. AngelOfSadness talk 19:13, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I'm going to create a Category:Banned Wikipedia pets and Wikipedia:List of banned pets now. --Oxymoron83 19:29, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, just so you know, I've enshrined you in my personal Hall of fame right here. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 19:52, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yay so my well thought out plan worked out perfectly then :P. I think a board should also be set up to fight pet vandalism called WP:Administrator intervention against pet vandals. AngelOfSadness talk 19:56, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great now I have to make an amendment to it!! :P KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 19:59, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your reversion of my edit in the Porridge article.

The reason you left on my talk page was the following:

"When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page."

Odd that you didn't spot "Changed Gröd to Grøt. (Gröd is not Norwegian.)" in the history page. And what could be controversial about correcting obvious faulty grammar? Ö isn't even a Norwegian letter.

I'll be courteous enough to let you redo your own reversion.

60.240.143.88 10:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for the revert was, as written at your talk page, that your edit removed [more than half of the] content from the article, probably accidentally. And your edit summary doesn't explain the removal, therefore my note was appropriate. --Oxymoron83 14:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(ec - answering to your extended comment) No IP will be blocked for one disruptive edit (except in unusual circumstances). But if there will be more vandalism edits from this IP, a block would be appropriate to protect Wikipedia. The good news is: If you create an account, you are able to continue editing although that IP might be blocked. --Oxymoron83 17:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering if you could take a look at a request for comment on the St Mark's College discussion page.

This is the result of an ongoing dispute and I think the more people we get to comment, the better chance we'll have of resolving the issue once and for all. You're comments would be much appreciated. Cheers. Username nought 12:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user has stopped vandalizing after the level3 warning, so no immediate action is necessary. If he continues to vandalize, you should give a final warning (templates can be found here); if he vandalizes afterwards again and is active at the moment you detect these edits, you can report to WP:AIV: click on the 'edit' link right to the 'user reported' headline and you'll find an example. Hello!

I copy the code into my monobook css but I don't have the "vandal fighter" that I use into the spanish wiki! Can you help to install it? Thanks! --RoyFocker 17:38, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment you only have the css — used to describe the style of document presentation — there. If you want the scripts, you may copy the content of Usuario:RoyFocker/monobook.js to RoyFocker/monobook.js. But this isn't recommended, as you probably will have Spanish edit summaries. You can take a look at WP:JS and assemble your own script collection. The most scripts (if not all) from the Spanish Monobook-Suite can be found there. You may like this multifunctional revert/tagging for deletion/reporting script, popups and Lupin/recent2.js. Alternatively you can try out this script collection. Instructions for installing can be found at the related pages; if you have questions, please ask again. --Oxymoron83 20:09, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit count tool

Hey! Loved that really nice edit count tool you cited [2]. Just an "odd" question, curious if it counts "deleted" edits or not (those made to pages that have been deleted), which would probably account for the discrepancy between that count and my unofficial one. Heck of a lot better than the wannabe_kate! SkierRMH 08:07, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Originally I found it in a post from KnowledgeOfSelf. This also counts the deleted edits and equals the count at Special:Preferences. This tool shows more edits, don't know how this comes about. --Oxymoron83 08:13, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3RR question

I deleted unsourced material from Husbands and Knives and this user rvted it 3 times, i gave him the warnings (which he deleted off his talk page) what can be done to people that keep adding unsourced material. Can i be blocked for 3RR for deleting unsourced material? Ctjf83 17:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for sources is reasonable. Nevertheless you shouldn't revert once more. I put another 3rr warning on Tuntis' talk page with the request to add the sources and will watch the situation for now. --Oxymoron83 17:38, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I may - insist on sources. While not strictly policy it, should be considered IMO. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 17:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to tell you how to do your job, but you might want to give User:71.56.219.142 more time, as he will prob vandalize your page along with mine after the block expires as he did to Mr.Z-man Ctjf83 01:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
3 days are ok for the second block; if he comes back, he will be reblocked. --Oxymoron83 01:14, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a certain procedure to fallow when blocking? I've seen users block indef. on the first time and others that never do that, after extreme repeats, or is it just up to your discretion? Ctjf83 01:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:BLOCK#Duration_of_blocks. It's not fully clear atm if this is a static ip, too less edits. To triple the lenght of the previous block is appropriate in this case. IPs are generally not indef blocked (excluding WP:OP). Again: The IP can be reblocked, if it will be back. --Oxymoron83 01:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
so if i see that use vand again, can i give them a final warning, the first time after the block? Ctjf83 01:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, better a 4im-warning; and adding "Vandalism directly after release of block" or something like that to the AIV report would be excellent. --Oxymoron83 01:41, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was accessing wikipedia from school, and someone (Deathtotheinternet) deleted a page. I know who it is its a known hacker so you should consider blocking or freezing that account. Thank yo for lifting the ban, do you know of any ways to access Wikipedia from a school computer with a different IP then the rest of the school? It would be appreciated if you had any information. Again thank you for lifting the ban. One last question, is there anyway I could get into a "class" or training or anything to become an editor and fixer like you are for Wikipedia? I hate people like deathtotheinternet, its an extreme nusince(SP?).

Thank You Very Much,

Hi, sorry, but it is not a 3RR case, it is an obvious vandalism [3]. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 01:11, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is also a banned troll. He's been doing this since at least february, and has accumulated no less than 8 blocks on various IPs since then. Someguy1221 (talk) 01:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No obvious vandalism. Do you have any links that confirm the 'banned troll'? --Oxymoron83 01:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He is removing short-form of the name of the republic. It is an obvious vandalism, it's not a disagreement. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 01:26, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)It all began with this incident back in february, for which (along with general incivility) 71.99.120.132 (talk · contribs) was blocked. My first encounter with this user was in September with 71.99.137.24 (talk · contribs). His contributions were marked by general incivility, and a penchant for edit warring in place of even the slightest amount of discussion. He was blocked twice for these actions. He hopped around several other IPs in the 71.99.xxx.xxx range from then until now, accumulating another 7 blocks for roughly identical edits. I refer to him as a banned troll because most admins who have seen my reports of him have blocked him on sight. Someguy1221 (talk) 01:26, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A link to that IP user page when reporting would be fine. As the long retention period at AIV has shown, I'm not the only admin who hasn't heard about that. --Oxymoron83 01:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Veeramanidasan

Hi Oxy, this is regarding Veeramanidasan wikipage which was recently getting vandalize by a person. It seems like you declined my requests which is quite shocked to me. As i mention, the user did not provide enough justification and reference. Since the page is contributed for a Living Person, the biography that i added was also re-edited to a talk page sentence which is totally out of sence. I have advised the user on the wikipage talk not to violate futher on the edits after a few edit warning, i requested for a page protection and its been declined by you. Please advise how i should proceed futher. I do not want to start edit war with the user and hoping to come to a conclusion. Your advise is highly appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Killerserv (talkcontribs) 04:27, 20 Nov 2007

Not to start an edit war is a good idea. If you don't come to a conclusion at the discussion page, I advise to make a demand on WP:RFC or WP:RFM. I think you both are rational enough to resolve this problem without a page protection and an user block. And please sign your talk page contributions. --Oxymoron83 04:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protecting 'Causes of the 1948 Palestinian exodus'

Hi,

Can you explain on its talk page why you protected this article?

There is some edit warring going on, but not very heavy (for the standards of this article). Also I am a participant in a mediation case, but that concerns actually only the use of one source on this page, and is irrelevant to the present edit warring.

Therefore I was wondering about your motivation.

Regards, --JaapBoBo (talk) 22:43, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've protected the article as an uninvolved admin due to the recent precipitance in reverting without prior discussion. A couple of editors are involved, you too. The page protection has been requested at WP:RFPP. Please add issues to be mediated to the mediation page or find consensus at the talk page. Thanks --Oxymoron83 23:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Port Adelaide Football Club

You do not seem to understand what goes on on this site. It is regularly edited by fans of the opposing team in Adelaide. They spend considerable time trying to tarnish the tradition of Port Adelaide and making sure poor performances are highlighted. Why is it neccesary to highlight the losing score of the 2007 grand final? Why is there so much rubbish about the 2007 heritage round. This is one round that is played every year by all 16 clubs but is only highlighted on the Port site because the Crows fans want to take a cheap shot at Port.

In 2007 Port finished 2nd of 16 after finishing 12th the year before. This is an improvement rarely seen in AFL football. However due to biased unfavorable editing, 2007 on Wikipedia basically carries on about a couple of old players views of the heritage round and the large loss in the grand final.

If you google other famous sporting events for the largest loss in the final you have to dig deep to find what the score was. Googlr the AFL grand final and all you get is the myriad of posts by crows supporters.

Hello Steve, I understand your position, but you disagree with several other editors, so I protected the page for some days to cool things down a bit. I can see only 2 edits on the article's talk page from you; please try to find consensus there. After the protection has expired, you can edit the page again, but please don't continue to make the same changes without discussing first. --Oxymoron83 01:14, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not the only person who has deleted that article. If you post the same content over and over again, this will only lead to a block of your account. If you think that your band is notable (see the link above), you should finish the article first (with a sourced claim of notability) and afterwards click 'save'. Thanks --Oxymoron83 16:39, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

well instead of just deleting it straight away, you could have at least sent a message or something letting me know where im going wrong. for a moderator you lot arent very helpful. it just seems like none of you have anything better to do other than racing each to see who can delete articles before anyone else does. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hobbyhorses (talkcontribs) 16:46, 22 Nov 2007

Vinxx socks

One last thing on, User:Vinxx appears to be the puppet master and was blocked yesterday but only for 72 hours [5]. This was before all of the socks. I just wanted to bring this to your attention to determine if the block should be extended. It does not matter to me, I was just patrolling new users, but I thought I would bring it to the attention of an admin. Regards.--12 Noon 20:20, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thanks for attention. I've left Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry a message. I tend to extend the block, but want to hear his opinion regarding the length. --Oxymoron83 20:34, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I blocked as a 'slap on the wrist'. Edits like this are generally full of emotion, and I didn't want to appear biased. If the user is now using socks, however, perhaps a longer block is in order. I was hoping a 72 hour block would dissuade him or her from making charged edits again - obviously not! Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've reviewed each of her/his edits (everywhere the same political POV, no talk page edits to find consensus) and — regarding the severity level of these changes — extended to 72 months. --Oxymoron83 21:21, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

vandal

Hi - I saw you gave a short block to 172.167.243.224 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) just now for vandalism - I just looked at his edits and reverted more vandalism by him, and this appears to be the same user as GoMJ1234 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) who was blocked a few minutes ago for vandalizing the same articles as this IP just vandalized - one page he vandalized is User:Malik Shabazz - Malik Shabazz had warned GoMJ1234 about GoMJ1234's vandalism and he retaliated by vandalizing Malik's page; same thing for the IP. Personally, I'd recommend a longer block for the IP than 3 hours - it's clearly a vandalism-only editor. Just thought I'd bring the specifics to your attention. Tvoz |talk 08:04, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've seen that he used that other account before, that's why I've blocked although he didn't vandalize after the level4 warning. But it's an AOL-IP, that changes every some minutes; what means (if that WHOIS is updated), he/she will have another IP soon, and possibly another user who will have been assigned this IP will be blocked for nothing. --Oxymoron83 08:11, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just found out, that these 172.128.0.0/10 —AOL-IPs are "normal" shared IPs now (WP:AOL), what however doesn't change anything on the block length. --Oxymoron83 08:22, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah - I hadn't looked at the IP details. This is a recurring problem that we really need to find a solution for - the vandals get away with it because we don't want to cause collateral damage - I understand the logic of that, but it's frustrating. Thanks for the reply. Meanwhile, I have the pages he's vandalized on my watchlist, and won't be surprised if he attacks mine or yours as this is his pattern. please block the ip of the page we both edited on. he is a persistent vandal who shall be punished for his actions. Tech43 (talk) 07:05, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What page? Which IP? --Oxymoron83 07:07, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:125.60.243.31 is the IP. Tech43 (talk) 07:14, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. First: No final warning given. Second it's a shared IP, that means the person who vandalized could be someone other. Third, we never block anyone to punish him/her. --Oxymoron83 07:19, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stupid Club

Hi, this is the author of the Stupid Club article. I don't know how to give credit to sources, but I can tell you that the Stupid Club quote from Kurt Cobain's mother is mentioned in Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain. If you could help me site it I'd be much appreciative. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tehphoenixdown (talkcontribs) 07:10, 25 Nov 2007

I've already put 1 link (reliable sources) on your talk page, you may also read citing sources. Solely the quote doesn't make this subject notable enough to have an own article. Regards --Oxymoron83 07:16, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help

Nice job sniffing out those socks, I've protected the pages being attacked, should be alright for a while, cheers. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 09:53, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amendment—he just moved on to an other related topic. Oh well he'll be blocked and get bored sooner or later. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 09:56, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you too. BTW (this has time until that one has given up), do you think that 69.143.226.129 (talk · contribs), imo a sock of 69.143.236.33 (talk · contribs) per contributions and edit summary, should also be blocked for (at least) 1 month? The IP he switched to seems also a static one. Caution: The diffs of the edits to their talk pages are huge. --Oxymoron83 10:02, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I agree, block to your wiki-hearts content. :) KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 10:04, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've blocked him for 350 hours. Odds are he'll just force a switch to an other IP, when that happens drop the ban hammer again. All you can do really. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 10:12, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, we'll see if he's able to. --Oxymoron83 10:19, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The great restitution of the centrality of Dharma

Halo Oxymoron93: I am endeavouring to rename four pages but as there are already redirection pages with the names I would like to call them the "move" functionality does not work. If you could please be so gracious as to inform me how to initiate a transition that ensures the entire integrity of the page and its associated discourse are translated I would be most appreciative. All glories to you are yours B9 hummingbird hovering (talkcontribs) 14:00, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You should find consensus at the talk page and afterwards request the move. Moving pages via cut&paste is unacceptable. You already have those links at your talk page. --Oxymoron83 14:06, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - Regarding SSEAYP

Thanks for your note and for welcoming me to WIKIPEDIA. I did not copy the works or articles from other pages - I compiled and edited them. I did not say I authored them. The SSEAYP page was meant for information and reference not advertisement. But because it was deleted I felt I do not deserve to contribute or edit the SSEAYP Page. But again, thanks for your help and your comment. I deeply appreciate it. I apologize if I was wrong by adding my talk/s several times and so disappointed that I told of copying works of others although I just compiled them. "Thrust Vectoring"; What is the status of my November 25, 07 contribution?

November 26, 2007, 10:34pm Hello Oxymoron83, Editor of "Thrust Vectoring";

What is the status of my November 25, 07 contribution? Please ignore my previous contributions on this subject that were a first-time attempts and let me know the status of the last one from November 25, which is inline with Wikipedia standards and instructions. Just to be sure, I re-introduce it here-below, with just 2 minor corrections adding s to 'nozzle' and replacing the example B-2 with X-36. Anticipating your response, I remain, sincerely Prof. Dr. Benjamin Gal-Or

Moved to subpage User:Oxymoron83/Thrust vectoring, this really overruns the purpose of a user talk page. Discussion can take place here. --Oxymoron83 23:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colorado Academy

Thanks for searching for a clean version on Colorado Academy. I wasn't able to find one, and when I gave up I saw that you'd already reverted :)

Unfortunately it was the most recent clean version I could find, sometimes it's amazing how keen these editors can be to make loads of vandalistic edits at once. Sometimes it's easier simply to revert all IP edits at once. Bobo. 01:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Hey I have been having problems with this IP. The IP has been attacking me constantly while I have been off line and as so I have not been able to revert the attacks and report the IP properly. I was wondering if you could watch or block the IP because this has been going on for some time and has been escalating Rgoodermote  11:46, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked for 31 hours due to other personal attacks I've found in older contributions (looks like all of them were made by the same person). A longer block can be issued if he/she continues after another final warning. --Oxymoron83 11:59, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but I have to say that the IP is most likely going to continue for whatever reason, I didn't even warn the IP before the attacks. Rgoodermote  13:05, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference help

Hi oxymoron83. I created the page Thaddeus Griffin, who is peter Griffin's brother from the tv show family guy. I have a list of references about his family (one of the sections is a list) here. But! For some reason it is not allowing me to cite the info. Could you help me with citing his family members, and because I have them all here it shouldn't take any longer than about 10 mins.

Thanks a lot;

Cf38 (talk) 13:58, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't get what you want to do/how I can help you. What info do you want to cite; is this a syntax problem? --Oxymoron83 14:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the article; It contains a section about his family. A few of the members do not have a wikipedia page, but a bio on Family Guy's 'wikia' page; So, I wanted to put links (refs) about these members linking to the site with the charecters bio's on.(this is the site)

thanks,

Cf38 (talk) 14:08, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I think I got it. But a wikia isn't what falls under a reliable source, better you look for another "official" source. --Oxymoron83 14:13, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But because of the nature of the section I wrote (his whole family) that would be extremley difficult to find. Cf38 (talk) 14:16, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Basiclly it's probably the only site with his whole family on. even family guy's official site does'nt have any bio's, and without the citing, the article may be deleted.

I also wasn't able to find another source; but a reference to a Wikia won't help you in a deletion discussion (it's the same as if there were no source). Are you sure this character is notable at all? There has to be some real-world information. If you find sourced real world information, notability should be established, this is imo more important as to source the character list. --Oxymoron83 14:33, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
