Bernhard Baader

Bernhard Baader (born ca. 1801; † 1859) was a collector of german folklore in the former Baden, now part of Baden-Württemberg.

Biography

Baader ended his education in 1819 at Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich. In the years of 1830 to 1840 he published as several other authors texts taken from the german folklore in different newspapers. Parts of his storys were taken by August Schnezler and published in his book Badisches Sagenbuch from 1846.

1851 Baader published his collection from about 20 years being a collector of badish folklore by himself in his book Volkssagen aus dem Lande Baden und den angrenzenden Gegenden. He stated, that all stories given in this book were collected from oral history. 1859 he published a sequel with more folklore.
