Aman Sehrawat (born 16 July 2003) is an Indian freestyle wrestler from Haryana. He competed at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris.[1] He is the lone male wrestler qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics from India.[1]He won the quarterfinals beating Albania's Abarakov Zelimkhan via technical superiority on 8 August 2024 and entered the semifinals of Paris Olympics Men’s Wrestling in the 57 kg division.[2][3]
Early life
Aman Sehrawat hails from Birohar, Jhajjar district, Haryana, where he initially took part in mud wrestling. Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win in the 2012 Summer Olympics, he enrolled at the Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi at the age of 10. He lost both his parents when he was 11 years old.[4][5]
Career
Sehrawat won his first National Championship title in 2021. He used to train under coach Lalit Kumar.[4]
In January 2024, he won the gold medal in the men’s 57kg event at the Zagreb Open wrestling tournament beating China’s Zou Wanhao in the final with a perfect score of 10-0.[6]
He won the bronze medal in the 57 kg category at the 2022 Asian Games.[7][8][9][10][11] Earlier in April 2023, he won a gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
