Hey Ais523, I need some help on another one of your scripts. I haven't been on WP much lately so I didn't notice until now that your script doesn't seem to be bolding new edits in my watchlist. Does this have anything to do with User:Ais523/watchlistbolder.js? Maybe taking a look at User:Sunny910910/monobook.js might help. I appreiciate you taking your time to help me.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 03:02, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm using IE7. Clearing my cache doesn't work and I think that cookie is there. Any ideas on what's wrong?--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 06:38, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Seems you're right, I've removed all my scripts except that one and it works now. There must be a script that's interfering with it somewhere. But before I removed the other script, I noticed that the notices (of a new page) were being leftover even after I've seen them and they were already on the pages I see even when I logged on. I'm going to do some tests to see which script is the problem.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 23:41, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Your watchlist script

Hello, ais. About User:ais523/watchlistnotifier.js: is there anyway to get it to ignore your own edits? I get a doohickey every time I leave a reply on my own user pages, which seems a little excessive. Thanks! Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:36, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

No, it's fine, no reason to make the servers work slower than they do already. Thanks for the reply, though! Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:16, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Category totals

Would you be able to comment at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Category totals? I see it was reported in this week's BRION, but it doesn't seem to work in all cases. Carcharoth (talk) 11:07, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply there. Would you be able to say when Category:All non-free media will be updated? It still seems to be showing the wrong total. Carcharoth (talk) 13:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for closing TfD on Template:Patriarchy (ethnographies). I thought it particularly helpful that you noted the namespace suggestion is best discussed at the template or article talk page. If anyone follows up on the discussion at that location, I'm very open to the suggestion. If we work out that it's a good idea, the template may become redundant and I'll be the first to propose for deletion accordingly.

It's mildly disconcerting to have so much work up for deletion. However, it is worth the price. It's a really, really good system. The proposer will not be the last to have the same idea. Future sceptics will have the advantage of seeing a prior deletion proposal did not attract support over the course of a whole month. That is really useful verifiable information enhancing the article.

Were I the sneaky type, I'd innoculate any major contributions at Wiki by nominating them for deletion myself! Alas, methinks my infirm consitution couldn't cope with that.

Anyway, thanks for the closure. Hope we all continue to find Wiki a unique and lasting project of real significance. Cheers Alastair Haines (talk) 12:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Watchlist.js

Hi Ais, I've been using your watchlist add-on for a couple days and I was wondering if you could expand it slightly to provide more info?

Current: article changed: "edit description". (watchlist)
Proposed: user changed article "edit description" about time ago. (watchlist)

time being some kind of reverse duration so 5m or 1h or 1d.

So an example would be... "xytram" changed wikipedia "edit example" about 5m ago. (watchlist)

I know your busy, so just an idea. Happy wikiing! »xytram« talk 10:46, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

In the new features section, you wrote "Logging in now logs a user in on all wikis (rather than all wikis on the same domain) if that user has a single-user-login global account." It turns out that this is not the case. If you take a look at the bug 14407 report, it turns out 32 wikis on *.wikimedia.org (including wikispecies but excluding meta and commons) are not automatically logged in. Users still have to login separately. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

Your editcount script is not working with the new wikimedia interfaces. --ɔɹǝɐɯʎ!Talk 02:23, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Dear Ais523...Thank you for writing such a useful script. It has already helped me a lot. Now, I was wondering if instead of having the parse link above the edit window, it could be below the edit window as a button with the Save page, Show preview, and Show changes buttons. Is that possible? Having it above the edit window just looks odd to me for some reason. If it isn't possible, I understand and will continue to use it. It is a good thing! Copyrights Infringement

Hi,

I tried placing a 'copyrights violation' template on the article 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_College_of_Art_and_Design' but couldn't find an appropriate one. Just thought I should bring it to an Admin's notice. Hope this is alright. Am kinda an amateur here and although I did manage to find a suitable template for an article earlier, I lost it this time :(.

The 'history' section has been picked up from 'http://www.acad.ab.ca/about.html'.

Script error?

I've used your edit counter script for several months and never had a problem. Now, whenever I click the "quick count" button (or the "day/night" button, I think) it says "Internal Server Error". Any idea why? Hope you can help.   jj137 (talk) 00:59, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I came here to say the same thing. It's probably because it uses query.php, which has been disabled on the Wikimedia servers. I'm not sure how to fix the script though. Graham87 01:50, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Bit of trouble

Hi, having a bit of trouble with the watchcat script, the pop-up keeps asking me to create the category watchlist when i already have, the debug info says "watchlist: responseText='/*Empty*/', statusText='OK'.". I'm totally in the dark about scripts so forgive me if this is some just stupid mistake i made--Jac16888 (talk) 02:45, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm utterly lost now. I am using IE7, I think i tried deleting the temp files last night to no avail, but wasn't sure, so i readded the script to my monobook, cleared my cache and reloaded my watchlist, only for nothing to happen at all, thinking it might be because i already have a filled WatchedCategories.js‎, which i get that the script generates on the first run, so i blanked that, but still nothing. Help would be appreciated, but please, don't do make it a priority or anything, just look at it(if you don't mind) whenever, its nothing i can't live without. Thanks--Jac16888 (talk) 21:42, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Still nothing, no message popping up or anything, sorry--Jac16888 (talk) 22:15, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Difficulty understanding stubtagtab

I've installed User:ais523/stubtagtab.js. It does put an extra tab on an article page (only, doesn't work in user page sandbox) allowing you to enter a stub category via a popup box. The script seems to suggest that it should give more options but I'm not seeing that action. What I'm asking is - what exactly does the script do, just add the stub category or will it give me a list of stub categories to choose from. --Sultec (talk) 03:43, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Username highlight

Hi. I'm considering adding the following request to Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals. Would you have any objections/suggestions/clarifications/etc? (reply here is fine) Thanks :) -- Quiddity (talk) 19:20, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

sample proposal text:

I'd like to propose turning User:Ais523/highlightmyname2.js into a Gadget. It highlights instances of a user's own username (example screenshot). This results in more easily quick-scanned talkpages, when searching for replies to one's own comments. It also helps eliminate one of the draws for colorful/distracting signatures (see for examples User:Athaenara/Gallery) that increasingly clutter up talkpages.

Note: At this stage I'm just asking for feedback about the overall-idea, not the implementation details; I'm not a js-coder so cannot speak for that, and ideally the specific highlight-color would be easily user-customized. -- Quiddity (talk) 19:20, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

No objections; it should work fine. (Make sure you use higlightmyname2, the original is 'better' in a sense but badly messes up some commonly-used browsers so is unsuitable as a Gadget.) I could probably make the colour customisable via CSS (the same way adminrights.js works), but that wouldn't be trivial to use. --ais523 21:22, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Redirect of Paul gustafson

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Paul gustafson, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Paul gustafson is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Paul gustafson, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I think this is a useful script. Do you think it would be expandable to re-color pages other people have top-contributions for as long as you have checked it? Usually I don't find whether I have the top edit important, but I do find it important if faults have crept in since. - Mgm|(talk) 12:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Basically, I want to be able to patrol pages I created in the past and be able to color them in the list, like the script does, as if I had the top edit if I can confirm no mistakes snuck in. - Mgm|(talk) 20:45, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Watched Cat's

Sorry to bother you about this again, I don't know if you remember but a while ago i had a problem getting your cat watching script to work, which by the way I fixed by doing the smart thing and switching to Firefox. Anyway, so far it has been immensely useful in working with cat:csd, and today I figured I should should add some more cats to it, only after I did so they stopped showing up in my watchlist. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks--Jac16888 (talk) 03:34, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Resignation

I confirm that I wish to resign adminship here on the English Wikipedia. (I'm just far too inactive and haven't used the tools for ages; I'll ask for them again if I ever need one, but for the time being it's just a security risk for no good reason to leave me with tools I'm not using. I'm happy to do admin requests like everyone else if I do happen to need them for a one off in future...) --ais523 10:50, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there ais523. I'm a very appreciative user of your script above, and I recently encountered someone asking at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Watchlist_changes about the version that's a gadget at Simple English Wikipedia. I gave him a link to the local version, but I also think it would do well as a gadget here. I realize that you're not always active at the moment, so I'd be willing to do any legwork a non-admin can do - but in the meantime, is there any objection to making a gadget? In particular, is there any technical problem that would need to be addressed? Feel free to respond when you have a chance, and thanks for taking the time to read this. Request for the WatchListNotifier

Hi, and thanks for your script User:Ais523/watchlistnotifier.js which I've just discovered and am now very pleased to be using. I have a request for it, though. I tried looking at your code, and I couldn't immediately decipher how I could make the change myself, were I to simply copy the script into my own userspace. As handy a script as I think it is, I find it slightly irritating that it also notifies me when there's a change made by myself - so everytime I edit a page on my watchlist, I'll be notified of the change and have to click the watchlist in order to reset the notifier. I'm actually guessing that it should be fairly easy to fix. As far as I can tell, your script simply looks at the top-most entry of the watchlist; if different from the last time the script looked, it raises the notification. Now, by default, I have my watchlist set to not show me my own edits. This apparently doesn't affect your script. However, if the script could instead look at a "watchpage cleared of the user's own contributions", then the problem should disappear. The only time a user will be notified is when the script discovers something new on that version of the watchlist, meaning that somebody else edited a watched page. Is this possible? If so, I'd be delighted if you could either:

  1. Change the script accordingly
  2. Make a new script that does this
  3. Tell me how to do this so I can modify your code by copying it to my own userspace

I know it's been a week since you've been contributing last, but I'm hoping you'll be back soon. In the meantime, no rush, it's still a great script for me! I just hope that you'll have the time to reply once you're back! -Lilac Soul (talk contribs count)I'm watching this page so just reply to me right here! 10:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

There are various technical problesm with this, but you may be able to do something similar.
The watchlist notifier script works by getting a copy of your watchlist via the API, which doesn't have a hide-own-edits option at the moment. (Maybe I should ask the developers to add one, it probably wouldn't be very hard for them.) I have to do it via the API, and only retrieve one result, for performance reasons (the developers wouldn't like it if the server was overloaded with watchlist notifier requests...) This means that, if you made the last edit to a page on your watchlist, and the watchlist notifier was set not to display when that happened, it would also not display if someone else edited a page on your watchlist then you edited a page on your watchlist, which is quite possibly not what you want.
If you're OK with that behaviour (which is probably no less informative than the current behavior), then you can probably get the script to work in your own userspace by making the following changes:
  1. Change comment|ids|title in the URL at the bottom to comment|ids|title|user
  2. Add code to parse watchuser the same way as watchsum and watchpage (you need to add it to the var list at the top of wmWatchEditFound and to the lists in the else block near the bottom)
  3. Change the if condition from if(watchrev!=watchrevold) to if(watchrev!=watchrevold&&watchuser!=wgUserName)
I haven't tested that, but it should work. --ais523 11:58, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the reply. I see what you mean, I think. It's a trade-off between false-positives (as it is now, I may get a notice even if only I myself changed something) or false-negatives (your suggestion would cause the notifier to show nothing even if others edited something, provided that I made a watched edit after that). I think I prefer the false-positives, then. You suggest asking the developers to change this. If you want to do that, that would be great and very much appreciated. If not, well, don't sweat it, it's still a great script! -Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 12:03, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Pink ~ "Please Don't Leave Me" video

I am trying to find out who wrote the article on this video. The message I got, threatening my account for changing it, had your name on it. The description is clearly wrong to anyone who has seen the video. I have adjusted it slightly and have been accused of vandalism for doing so. I am trying to get to the bottom of this matter. I appreciate your help.

I have changed two small sections. Where it says slipped on marbles, "presumably left there by Pink." There is nothing in this video that makes the viewer presume they were left there intentionally. Secondly, I changed where it said she is spoon feeding her boyfriend/captor. She is clearly painting his face with makeup to make him look clownish (hence the album title, Fun House, and the numerous circus type objects throughout her house in the video. NO WHERE in the video does she have a spoon in her hand or is she spoon feeding him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EthelMertzGoneMad (talkcontribs) 06:38, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
