Om Murti Anil (born 31 October 1978) MD, FACC is a Nepalese Interventional cardiologist, author and Social media personality. He uses social media to raise health awareness for the prevention of heart disease.[2][3][4]

Early life and Education

Anil was born in Dhamaura village of Mahottari district, and received his primary education there.[5] He earned his MBBS from College of Medical Science, Kathmandu University, Doctor of Medicine degree from Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University and Doctorate of Medicine (DM Cardiology) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He is fellow of the Society of cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention in the US and the American College of Cardiology.[6]

Career

He has authored a book in Nepali language titled, Ma Pani Doctor (English, "I am also a doctor") in 2013 which aims to prevent heart disease through health awareness.[7] Anil uses social media platforms to share informative articles and videos on heart health with the public.[8][9] He is a health campaigner and has been recognised as a Social media influencer in Nepal. He has more than 1.25 million followers on Facebook.[10]For over a decade, he's consistently shared health-related content on social media. Creating his posts in response to queries from patients and followers, he offers guidance and motivation for adopting healthy lifestyle.[11]

He has organized free health camps, including a heart camp that served over 5,500 people in Kathmandu and had received "JNHRC best paper award" of the year 2019 for his research.[12][13][14] He has also initiated a campaign called "Mission to Save Heart" with the aim of training health workers to provide better treatment of heart patients.[15] He has founded National Cardiac Centre in Kathmandu which conducts awareness activities and trainings along with cardiological services.[16][17][18]

He recently established the Dr. Om Foundation with the theme of Health, Education and Social Transformation, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Madhesh Pradesh, Saroj Kumar Yadav.[19]

His second book Jiwanta Sambandha was released in September 2023. The author has announced to donate all the money earned from the sales of this book for the welfare of vulnerable elderly. This book gained attention of Nepalese readers in recent times because of its content which is related with relationships and its effect on life of an individual.[20]

World Records in Health Awareness

Anil recently set a Guinness World Record for the "Most viewers for a cardiovascular health awareness live stream on Facebook." His 30-minute presentation on World Heart Day attracted 11,212 live viewers, focusing on the "Diagnosis of Hypertension."[21] Anil plans to expand awareness globally and within Nepal through free heart camps, school programs, and collaborations with various organizations. Anil's achievement underscores a decade-long commitment to cardiovascular health awareness.[22]

Anil also achieved recognition in March 2023 by securing a spot in the World Book of Records, London, for the 'longest-running radio interview as a guest speaker on heart disease prevention.' [23] This accomplishment involved a series of interviews conducted over 44 consecutive weeks in 2014, broadcast on Image FM, Kathmandu.[24]
