Ahalia Navina Evans CBE, known as Navina Evans, is the Chief Workforce, Training & Education Officer at NHS England.[1][2] Evans is a consultant psychiatrist and was previously the chief executive officer at East London NHS Foundation Trust and chief executive officer at Health Education England.[3] Evans hold an MBBS, DCH and MRCPsych,[4] and is also a Trustee of The Think Ahead Organisation.[5]
Career
Evans, originally from Malaysia, has over twenty years’ clinical experience in psychiatry, medicine and paediatrics, and came to East London in 1997 as a consultant psychiatrist. In 2011 she took on the role of deputy chief executive and director of operations at the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT), and was appointed as chief executive in August 2016.[6] She held a number of positions in the Trust prior to being appointed chief executive, including Clinical Director for Adolescent Mental Health Services.[7]
At the time, East London NHS Foundation Trust was one of the two Trusts in the UK to have ethnic minority chief executives.[8]
Prior to 2011, Evans worked as the clinical director for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at ELFT.[9] In March 2020, it was announced that Evans would succeed Professor Ian Cumming as the new chief executive officer at then Health Education England.[10][11] Evans became the first and only Asian woman to lead Health Education England,[12] before it was merged into NHS England.[13]
In 2020, Evans was made an Honorary Fellow at the Royal College of Psychiatrists[14]
Awards
Evans was awarded a CBE in the New Years Honours List in January 2020 for services to NHS leadership and the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community.[15]
