How to upload the image under free license or something

Hello Plpm2021, there is something i want to consult you about. About the new article Roh Yoon-seo, i tried uploading an image which is Roh herself in an interview in COSMOPOLITAN Korea on 23 April. but it failed and i had no experience in doing so.

may i seek your help and/or advice in doing so? --NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:36, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Freely licensed files can be uploaded to wikimedia commons with appropriate copyright and sourcing information. Plpm2021 (talk) 08:43, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Plpm2021, will i be criminally charged or anything if i commit any error in uploading this image right? NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
what do they mean by qualifiers and references? do i need to fill them and how do i know the video id? NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
i finished already. Plpm2021, may I ask for your permission to see if I have any errors or what? You may feel free to tell me how do i improve NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:52, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
the image you uploaded is not free, because the video is NOT licensed under the Creative Commons. Such images CAN'T be uploaded to wikimedia commons.
See this video. In the description it is mentioned "Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)". Only such videos are freely licensed. Plpm2021 (talk) 08:53, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
could you help me to maybe remove it? I not sure how to remove it, or replace it NelsonLee20042020 (talk) 08:56, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The image file will be deleted later Plpm2021 (talk) 09:10, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are Netflix series TV series?

netflix is a tv series or drama ott Or should we organize a web series? or television drama category.--Aoowassana (talk) 10:21, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's true that Netflix are series streaming television series. But, it is not necessary to list them under web series. Squid Game in Lee Jung-jae's Filmography, Stranger Things in Winona Ryder filmography, Sense8 & Kingdom in Bae Doona's Filmography, and Dark (TV series) in Louis Hofmanns Filmography are all listed under television.
It is not incorrect to list Netflix series under web series but is there really need to do so, when you can already list them under television series? Plpm2021 (talk) 10:40, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ok i understand--Aoowassana (talk) 11:09, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lankan Economic Crisis

Hi Plpm - I reverted your reversion of an edit here: [[1]] - the key question is whether there is a reliable source to say that these bombings are one of the causes of the crisis. I can't see anything already in the article to suggest this - so please add back if you can provide a reliable source. Friendly regards, Springnuts (talk) 13:44, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Springnuts: Hi! I have yet to find the reliable sources to prove that the Easter bombings is one of the causes of this crisis. But in the article,
1. The third sentence of the introductory paragraph in the top says "The crisis is said to have begun due to multiple compounding factors like money creation, a nationwide policy to shift to organic or biological farming, the Easter bombings in 2019, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic."
2. In the Infobox, start date of this crisis is stated as April 2019. The only major thing happened in that month which affected Sri Lankan economy is the Easter bombings.
3. In the subsection Tourism under the section Causes, it is stated "The sector was negatively affected by the 2019 Easter bombings, and the COVID-19 pandemic prevented recovery."
Even the Russian invasion of Ukraine (which did not directly affect the situation) is stated under the causes in the Infobox, so I don't see any reason to remove Easter bombings. Thanks. 🔮Plpm2021💬 16:23, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The point is that we can't use what we say elsewhere as a source; we need reliable, published sources. It may or may not be true that the bombings are a cause, but if nobody else is saying this then putting it in the artile is original research - which we don't include. Best wishes, Springnuts (talk) 17:05, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Springnuts: Understood your point. Are the following sources enough to verify that bombings became a cause of crisis?
1. "..."Sri Lanka is undergoing a severe economic crisis at present and it is manifested at both the individual and national level,” said W.A. Wijewardena, an economic analyst and a former deputy governor of central bank." – (July 2019) The Diplomat
2. "Conditions have been deteriorating for the past several years. In 2019, Easter suicide bombings at churches and hotels killed more than 260 people. That devastated tourism, a key source of foreign exchange." – (July 2022) The Indian Express
Thanks. 🔮Plpm2021💬 17:31, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I’d list the proximate cause - the collapse of tourism - and leave the body of the article to expand on the reasons for that. But let’s leave it for now and see how other editors develop it. Thanks! Springnuts (talk) 08:03, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Crime City 3 moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Crime City 3, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.  DIVINE  04:41, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@DIVINE: Can you explain why this article is not ready for mainspace? As I think the article meets Wikipedia's notability guideline for future films since principal photography has already begun. All the information in the article is well sourced also. What is needed more? Thanks. 🔮Plpm2021💬 05:02, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's not yet released. Please resubmit again after the movie is released, as a not yet released movie weakly passes notability here in enwiki.  DIVINE  05:06, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DIVINE: I still don't understand what you mean. Why I have to wait till movie is released when there is Wikipedia's notability guideline for future films which says "Films that have not been confirmed by reliable sources to have commenced principal photography should not have their own articles". And for Crime City 3, there is reliable sources to confirm principal photography have begun. Then doesn't it meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for future films already? 🔮Plpm2021💬 05:16, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As I mentioned above, Weakly passes notability and another thing here is Additionally, films that have already begun shooting, but have not yet been publicly released (theatres or video), should generally not have their own articles unless the production itself is notable per the notability guidelines. And [2] this source only mentions that they started filming on July 20th, but the whole source is full of personal views and interviews with artists, so I don't regard it fully reliable. Your article has been moved to drftspace it doesn't mean your article is deleted. You can fix it or add additional sources and submit it whenever you want to submit it, as I'm not the only reviewer left here.  DIVINE  05:54, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DIVINE: Understood your point.😊 Thank you!!! 🔮Plpm2021💬 06:06, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Box office number formatting for Korean films

Hi @Plpm2021! I've noticed that both of us have been updating the box office for Korean films this year, and that you have been converting box office numbers to two decimal places. If you look up the Korean films released in 2020 and earlier, they have generally been converted to one decimal place, and I believe we should keep the formatting consistent. Please let me know your thoughts regarding this issue, thanks! Wheezythewave (talk) 17:28, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Wheezythewave: Is there particular guideline to follow about rounding in Wikipedia? I see no way to find out who is correct. Thanks. 🔮Plpm2021💬 18:06, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
After going through previous films, I noticed that in most of them, gross is in 3 significant digits. So, I'll round box office valuse to 3 significant digits in the future.🔮Plpm2021💬 18:14, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I would generally round to two decimal places if the box office is below US$10 million, and one decimal place if it surpasses US$10 million. Wheezythewave (talk) 18:19, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.

  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license.
