The Century is a 42-story, 145.7 m (478 ft) luxury condominium skyscraper in Century City, California. Completed in late 2009, the building has 42 floors, making it the 22nd tallest building in Los Angeles. The 140 unit building was designed by Robert A. M. Stern. In an article, by Michael D. Carlin, The Century City News calls The Century "The David" comparing the building to the Statue created by Michelangelo.[5]
History
The Century was developed by Related Companies, and constructed on the site of the former St. Regis Los Angeles, a Century City landmark next to and formerly part of the Century Plaza Hotel. The 30-story hotel was completed in 1984 and hosted many famous guests, including former President Reagan. Related shuttered the property in 2005 .[6]
Record prices
On July 22, 2008 Candy Spelling, the wife of late television producer Aaron Spelling, purchased the penthouse occupying the top two floors of the building. The penthouse residence, spanning approximately 16,500 sq ft (1,530 m2) sold for US$34,800,000, setting a price-per-square-foot record for a Los Angeles condominium residence.[6]
The previous record for a Los Angeles condominium sale was set in February 2008 when a half-floor penthouse at The Century sold for $11.650 million or $2,700 per-square-foot.[6]
Another record in the building is half-floor penthouse at The Century sold for $10 million and 9.5 million.
The cheapest unit sold at The Century is $1,700,000 for a 2-bedroom unit.
