Sebastian Plano (born 1985) is an Argentinian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin, Germany. His 2019 album Verve has been nominated for Best New Age Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. He has composed the soundtrack for the video game Everything alongside Ben Lukas Boysen.

Early life and career

Sebastian Plano was born into a musical family in Rosario, Argentina in 1985.[3][4] He started playing cello at the age of seven before creating his own music from the age of twelve.[5]

When he was 17 years old, he was selected and awarded a full scholarship among other 4 young musicians around the world to attend the United World College of the Adriatic [6] to study with Trio di Trieste and with cellist Enrico Bronzi.

In 2003 he moved to Boston after receiving a full scholarship to pursue a bachelors degree at the Boston Conservatory. In 2008 he relocated to San Francisco to start a masters degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A year later he would become a chamber music scholar appearing on stage with faculty members.[7]

His solo career as a record producer began in 2011 with the self-release of his debut album 'Arrhythmical Part of Hearts'.[8] As a medium to promote his music Plano started busking at the San Francisco subway where he would play his own music while selling copies of his debut record to the public. His second record 'Impetus' was mastered by Nils Frahm in 2012 and released a year after on Denovali Records along a re-release of his debut album.[9]

On April 19th of 2013, outside a recording studio in San Francisco, Plano suffered a theft incident that resulted on the complete loss of his forthcoming album 'Verve'. In August of the same year he relocated to Berlin where he is still currently based.[10]

In 2017 he co-wrote with Ben Lukas Boysen the soundtrack for the game 'Everything (video game)' by David OReilly. The soundtrack was released on Erased Tapes Records[11] and it was on the long-list for consideration for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards, making it the first video game trailer to qualify for the Oscars.[12]

In 2017, Plano signed to Universal Music’s Mercury KX label and in 2019 he released his third full length record 'Verve' after a period of reconstructing the lost works.[13]
