M. Abdul Lathief, also spelled M. Abdul Latheef, (died 17 December 2001) was an Indian politician who had been chairman of Tamil Nadu Wakf Board and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Tamil Nadu.
Lathief was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Vaniyambadi constituency as an independent candidate in 1971[1] and 1977.[2] He won the same seat as a candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 1996[3] and in the 2001 elections again won it as an independent.[4] He also won the Chepauk constituency as a DMK candidate in 1989.[5]
As an independent candidate in Vaniyambadi, Lathief was runner-up to one from the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) in the 1980 election.[6] He also lost in the 1991 elections, when he stood in Ranipet constituency for the DMK and finished runner-up to the ADMK.[7]
Lathief died of a heart attack in hospital at Chennai on 17 December 2001. He was aged 65 and at the time of his death was general secretary of the Indian National League as well as an MLA.[8] Lathief had twice been chairman of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board, between May 1989-March 1992 and from June 1997 to July 1999.[9]
