Flowers in Goyang International Flower Festival

Goyang International Flower Festival has become the largest flower festival in Korea, attracting one million visitors annually. [1][citation needed] This flower festival is valued as a new model for local cultural festivals, in which even foreign flower farmers directly participate.

During the Festival, various flower-based events and cultural performances are held, and visitors may enjoy and buy flowers from all over the world. This promotes the domestic flower industry and the trading of flowers, as well as provides a great momentum for the growth of the domestic flower industry.[citation needed]

History

Goyang Flower Show has been started in 1991 and it has been held every year until 1996. Since 1997, Goyang International Flower Festival had been held every 3 years until 2012. But starting from 2013, Goyang International Flower Festival has been held every year.[2] It has attracted 5.2 million people until now and has been growing one of the most famous international flower festival in Korea.[3]

Goyang International Flower Festival has proceeded many programs every year with both domestic and foreign cooperation. In 2015, Goyang International Flower Festival has two parts of program, Indoor exhibition and outdoor garden.[5]

-Life Style Zone : rare plants exhibition, office exhibition, practical use exhibition like interior,wedding flowers.

-laboratory of horticulturist : Flagship store directing institutions and companies together.

Effect

With various business programs, Goyang International Flower Festival achieved 33 million won of export contract. As a result, Goyang International Flower Festival signed an export contract more than 30 million won for 4 straight years. Flower markets in Goyang negotiated export contract more than 14 million won, 42% of total contract amount.[6]

More than 550 thousands of visitors visited Goyang International Flower Festival 2015. Total visitors has increased about 20% of total visitors.[6]

According to the analysis of Sinhan University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Goyang International Flower Festival 2015 achieved economical effects about 71.1 billion won. [6]

Landmarks

IIsan Lake Park

Ilsan Lake Park is the largest artificial lake in the East. Citizens of Goyang city can enjoy following the trail, riding a bicycle or enjoying performances and shows which are played at weekends. [7]

Lafesta

Lafesta is the biggest street theme shopping center. It is the only UEC(Urban Entertainment Center) shopping mall in Korea. Lafesta called 'Ilsan Myeongdong' and it is exclusive shopping center. It has movie theater, fashion outlets, food court, special food court, theme cafe, game center, record shop, book shop, beauty clinic, and etc. [8]

Korea International Exhibition Center(KINTEX)

KINTEX(Korea International Exhibition Center) is the largest international exhibition and convention venue in Korea. It located in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. To internationalize Korea's exhibition industry, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency(KOTRA), Gyeonggi Provincial government, and Goyang city had joint investment together to build KINTEX to resolve shortage of event space in Korea. [9]

Onemount

Onemount is Complex-Cultural Facilities which have nine floors above ground and 2 underground. It has one of the biggest shopping centers in Goyang city. It consists of Water park, Snow park, Shopping mall and Sport club. Water park and Snow park open 365 days so you can enjoy summer & winter leisure. There are 125 shopping mall. It is not that far from Ilsan Lake Park and KINTEX.[10]
