Frank Severino (Born Francis Giovanni Severino June 2, 1936- October 5, 1987) was an American jazz Drummer /percussionist and composer of Italian Decent. Well known as Sarah Vaughn's Drummer. He was considered to be one of the leading jazz Drummers to complement jazz vocal artists of the 20th Century. His extensive use of Brushes and inventive grooves including melodies he played on his own invention called the Mello drum are what made him well known in the Jazz scene. |

Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania the son of a carpenter and Inventor James Vincent Severino and Mother Regina Ciano Severino who was a seamstress. He was raised in Philadelphia and was said to have started playing the drums at the age of 4. At the young age of 16 His early professional career as a drummer took him on the road touring with Sarah Vaughn. He also Served in the United States army Infantry from 1959 to 1965 and played in the 52nd Army Band in Texas. |
