This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Minecraft article. This is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject. |

Q1: Why doesn't this article have more information on blocks/crafting/mobs/entities/mods than it does?
A1: Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, nor is it a how-to guide. Articles should strive to present a broad overview of their subjects. Video game articles in particular try to describe general mechanics and gameplay instead of specific details. This helps to keep the article accessible to readers who may not otherwise be familiar with Minecraft. Q2: Why doesn't this article show the prices?
A2: Wikipedia is not a directory. Product prices should not be quoted in an article unless they can be sourced and there is a justified reason for their mention. In general, if mainstream media sources (not just product reviews) provide commentary on the price of an object instead of just passing mention, this is an indication that its price may have encyclopedic significance. Prices listed by individual vendors, on the other hand, can vary widely from place to place and over time. Wikipedia is not a price comparison service to be used to compare the prices of competing products, or the prices of a single product from different vendors. |

Currently, over 17 million copies of the PC/Mac edition have been sold. The article only says 15 million copies. I recommend that someone updates this information. https://minecraft.net/stats shows how many people have bought the PC/Mac edition. 184.19.99.236 (talk) 15:48, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
- Done. Number of copies updated. I used a third party source instead of minecraft.net though. Sarahj2107 (talk) 16:07, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

The last paragraph in the introduction should be changed from: "On September 15, 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, granting the company ownership of the game's intellectual property. The all-cash deal is worth $2.5 billion, and the deal was completed on November 6th, 2014."

In the "Critical" subsection of the "Reception" section, "it has starting" should grammatically be "it has started". 2601:E:100:7C9:5068:8B8F:4ACA:CC83 (talk) 05:33, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
Intro suggestions
Regarding the first sentence ("Minecraft is a sandbox independent video game"), the phrase 'open world' would be more understandable. I think 'sandbox' has too many other connotations.
More important, if Microsoft has bought Mojang, is it still an independent video game? Especially at a $2.5B value? Maybe skip commenting on that in this intro.
Maybe change the first sentence to: Minecraft is a popular open world video game originally created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson and developed and published by the Swedish company Mojang since 2009..

Minecraft Forums link
Hi,
Should there be a link to the Minecraft Forums in the External Links section? After all, it's Minecraft's main community page :).

- Not done: as you have not requested a specific wording an have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 19:41, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

"nearly 2.4 million copies have been sold across all platforms" ... this is incorrect. I believe it should read, "nearly 54 million copies..." 140.254.45.32 (talk) 15:37, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

- I've done this. The lead was incorrect and/or out of date. The sources down in the Commercial subsection of the Reception section cover it. -- ferret (talk) 18:17, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
