All Hallows is a co-educational Catholic prep school that provides day and boarding facilities. The school is located a mile east of Cranmore village, near the town of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, in the West of England. As of 2010 the school has 311 pupils, including 62 boarders.[1] An Ofsted inspection in 2010 rated the boarding provision at All Hallows as outstanding.[1]

History

All Hallows was founded as a boys' school in 1938 by Francis Dix but not at the current location. Shortly after World War II, the school moved into the Grade II* listed Cranmore Hall — the former home of Sir Richard & Lady Paget — which had been used as a maternity hospital during the war.[2]

The school became co-educational in 1971. In 2006 the school acquired a new modern classroom block, the Crane Wing. The name of Cranmore derives from Crane's Mere — the original name for the area based upon the name of the bird and the former wetlands it inhabited. In 2007 an extension to the reception classroom was built. An ongoing development programme spanning sixty years has seen the school grow organically to record levels of some 300+ pupils. It is now known nationally as one of the leading Catholic, Co-educational, Boarding and Day, fully independent Preparatory Schools.

Results and Scholarships

In 2013, 65% of All Hallows leavers received Awards in all areas of school life – Academic, Sports, Music, Art, Subject Specific as well as All Rounder and Special Headmaster’s Awards. All Hallows is non selective on entry and is proud of the fact that around 60% of pupils every year receive an award to a wide range of Senior Schools. “This co-ed Catholic prep school is, ‘unbelievably brilliant – big on pastoral care with a real sense of love-thy-neighbour’. All Hallows is one of those well-kept secrets.” Tatler – Schools Guide 2014

Our mission is to provide a secure and happy environment where children will develop the inner confidence necessary to flourish in a rapidly changing world. Whilst we protect and nurture our children, we also challenge and stretch them in order to build their ability to thrive as adults in the future.

“We want to thank all of the All Hallows team for the effort, love and care shown to our son during the past 3 years. He is a much better young man in all aspects of his personality.” Parent.

All Hallows is a very special place to grow, live and work, a school radiating warmth and vibrancy. At the heart of All Hallows’ success is a vision aimed at nurturing each individual and developing the ‘whole child’ through cutting edge education and rich and varied experiences, underpinned by the unswerving certainty that Christian values are paramount. This unique school provides opportunities abound for the children here and there is true innovation evident across all areas of school life. Rated as Outstanding by Ofsted. Situated in a west-country, rural location in 25 acres surrounded by open countryside and farmland, the school is close to the major cities of Bath, Wells and Bristol. “All Hallows is such a lovely, happy school and we have been absolutely thrilled with it.” Parent

Sports

All Hallows children were awarded a staggering 24 Sports Scholarship Awards or All Rounder Awards including Sport in 2013.

At All Hallows, every child has the opportunity to participate in team and individual sports and activities at the level that challenges them but which suits their ability. With over 15 acres of pitches, floodlit tennis courts, a modern sports hall, heated covered swimming pool, an Astroturf pitch, a multi-purpose surface, golf practice nets and bunkers, cricket nets, an all-weather cricket wicket and more, our facilities are matched by the expertise and commitment of staff and visiting professionals who contribute to sport at every level of the school. Investment in teaching and facilities has been extensive and is on-going in order to enable us to provide programmes that are as individualised as possible.

Enrichment

Enrichment isn’t an activity programme at All Hallows, it is an integral part of our ethos and approach to learning. A key aim is to encourage children not just to pursue their strengths and interests but to embrace opportunity, step out of their comfort zone and try new things without fear of failure. Our Saturday Enrichment Programme, evening enrichment and post common entrance programme, along with all that happens at All Hallows during the week, helps children grow into happy, confident, resilient and compassionate young adults.

Activities

Pupils undertake local and international charitable pursuits.[1] In 2010, the school staged a number of fundraising events, including a sponsored bicycle ride from John o' Groats to Land's End by two parents,[3] to raise money for Freewheelers EVS, a registered charity that provides an out-of-hours motorcycle courier service to hospitals in the local area. The school raised enough to buy a new BMW R1200RT motorcycle, which was presented to Freewheelers on 1 July 2010.[4] One of the pupils won a competition to name the new bike "The Flying Crane",[5] reflecting the school's links with the bird. In February 2011, one of the school's teachers spent six weeks at a school in Sang'a, Kenya.[6] Pupils at All Hallows have links with the school,[1] and have raised money for several years to provide clothing, teaching resources and sanitary facilities.[6]
