Geologica Acta is a quarterly peer-reviewed scientific journal that covers research in the Earth sciences. It was established in 2003 as a successor to Acta Geologica Hispanica (1966-2002), which was a more locally-oriented journal published in Spanish. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2011 impact factor of 1.672, ranking it 12th out of 46 journals in the category "Geology".[1]

The journal is funded by the University of Barcelona, the Institute of Earth Sciences "Jaume Almera" (CSIC), the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (CSIC), the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and the Institut Geològic de Catalunya. It receives additional financial support from the publications department of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
