Sale Ngahkwe (Template:Lang-my, pronounced [sàlè ŋəkʰwé]; c. 884–943) was a king of Pagan dynasty of Burma (Myanmar). Although Burmese chronicles state that he reigned from 906 to 915, the actual reign, deduced from King Anawrahta's year of ascension, 1044, was likely between 934 and 943. (Much of the information given in Burmese chronicles prior to Anawrahta's reign are unreliable or legendary.)
According to the legend, Ngahkwe, a descendant of King Thingayaza of Pagan but brought up in obscurity at Sale in central Burma, came to work in the service of King Tannet as a stable groom. Ngahkwe then assassinated the king and seized the throne.[1][2]
