James A. Ball (May 7, 1903 – July 2, 1988) was a Canadian athlete who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics.

He was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and died in Victoria, British Columbia.

Ball competed for Canada in the 1928 Olympics held in Amsterdam, Netherlands in the 400 metres where he won the silver medal. He then aided the Canadian team containing Alex Wilson, Phil Edwards and Stanley Glover to a bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay.

Four years later he returned to the relay team with 400 metre bronze medalist Wilson, Edwards and Ray Lewis to win the bronze at the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles. In the 400 metre event he was eliminated in the semi-finals.

At 1930 Empire Games he won the silver medal with the Canadian team in the 4×440 yards relay event. He also finished fifth in the 220 yards competition and in the 440 yards contest.

He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 1980.
