Raheem Sterling (born 8th December 1994)[1] is an English footballer who plays for Liverpool. He plays as a midfielder. Despite being Jamaica-born Sterling plays for the English youth teams due to his heritage.
Playing career
He played in a 'Victory Shield' youth match for England against Northern Ireland where he assisted the second goal in a 2-0 win.[2] Before the match he said "It is a big ambition of his to represent England. I'm just really pleased he can do that while playing for QPR."[3] He has been dubbed the "new Theo Walcott".[4]
Liverpool
On 27 February 2010, Raheem joined Liverpool Football Club for around £500,000[5] from QPR. The attacking midfielder will join the club's Academy set-up in Kirkby.[1]
Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow said: "The success of our academy is vital to the future stalling of homegrown youth and we have made clear that we will continue to invest in outstanding youngsters from overseas.[1]
"Raheem is a very exciting young English player whose progress was being closely monitored by many other leading clubs and I'm delighted he's joining us.[1]
"Frank McParland (academy director) and his staff have done a great job in bringing him to Liverpool."[1]
