Jeff Dowd (born 20 November 1949) was the basis for the character "the Dude", also known as Jeff Lebowski, from the movie The Big Lebowski. Dowd was a member of the Seattle Seven. He later moved to Los Angeles and became an independent movie producer and promoter. He met the Coen Brothers, directors of The Big Lebowski, while promoting their first film, Blood Simple.
