Fieldrunners (also FIELDRUNNERS) is a tower defense game for iPhone. Released on 5 October 2008, Fieldrunners is the first release of developer Subatomic Studios. Fieldrunners has been nominated for several iPhone application awards[1].

Gameplay

Fieldrunners currently offers two types of gameplay: Classic and Endless. Playing in Classic mode limits the number of waves against which the player must defend. In Endless mode, the player may defend indefinitely. In either mode, the player may play in Easy, Medium, or Hard mode.

Friendly Units

Friendly units here describes units placed by the player. Each unit may be upgraded twice.

Gatling Tower

  • Initial Cost: $5
  • Upgrade Cost: $4

The Gatling Tower is the basic unit of the game. Cheap and continuously firing, it is well suited for quickly constructing defenses. Each upgrade increases the damage per second rating of the tower.

Goo Tower

  • Initial Cost: $10
  • Upgrade Cost: $5

The Goo Tower slows fieldrunners. When deployed in effective patterns, it is a very effective force multiplier. Each upgrade increases the slowing effect of the goo projectile but does not affect the tower's rate of fire.

Missile Tower

  • Initial Cost: $20
  • Upgrade Cost: $15

The Missile Tower is effective against air units. It has the greatest range of the four towers and its projectile does splash damage (damages all units in close proximity). Each upgrade increases the direct and splash damage done by the tower's projectile.

Lightning Tower

  • Initial Cost: $70
  • Upgrade Cost: $50

The Lightning Tower does the most damage of the four towers. Very similar to the Tesla Coil of the Red Alert series, it fires discretely, making it less effective against a rush of fast-moving units. Each upgrade increases the damage done per strike but does not affect the tower's rate of fire.

Enemy Units

Soldiers

The first unit encountered, these units are easily killed and have moderate speed. They are vague representations of humans and are best classed as cannon fodder.

Large Soldiers

These units are larger human-like figures. They move more slowly than the basic soldier but have more hit points.

Mechanized Infantry

These units appear to be soldiers on motorcycles. They have a comparable number of hit points but are the fastest units in the game.

Tanks

The tank unit looks like the stereotype of a modern tank. They are slow moving but have a fairly high number of hit points.

Helicopters

Helicopters move at a moderate rate of speed but have the unique attribute of being able to bypass any paths created by towers. They move directly from the entry point of the map to the exit point.

Blimps

Blimps are extremely slow moving but have a massive amount of hit points.

Red Robot

The Red Robot is similar to the Blimp, but is ground based and may be routed through paths.
