Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (ソニックライダーズ シューティングスターストーリー, Sonikku Raidāzu: Shūtingu Sutā Sutōrī, lit. Sonic Riders: Shooting Star Story) is a hoverboard-racing video game for the Wii and PlayStation 2. Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is the sequel to Sonic Riders.

Story

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are alerted to robots from Meteor Tech attacking the city of Molecurpea, the famous city of the future. They set out to retrieve the legendary artifact known as the "Shooting Star", an item that has the ability to control gravity. Along the way they discover surprises, including the Babylon Rogues, a group of avian thieves who are also after the Shooting Star. This sets off a war between who gets the artifact, now leading them to settle their dispute by having an Extreme Gear competition.

Gameplay

The upcoming 2008 game introduces new abilities most characters use throughout the entire game. By gaining gravity points through tricks and technical challenges, players will enter a zero-gravity zone and be able to perform two new moves. Gravity Dive sucks the player towards a black hole further down the track, giving them a speed boost which tosses cars and other objects off the track and into the air which characters are able to grind on to gain more speed. You can use this move by shaking the Wii Remote up and down rapidly. Gravity Control changes the gravity of the course, allowing the player to use a different track, such as one of the walls. This is done by pressing the 1 button and tilting the Wii Remote in the direction you want to go. Also in the game is a move called Gravity Drift. This move is similar to the Grip move in Sonic Riders in which it can help characters turn on tight corners. This is also done by pressing the 1 button and tilting the Wii Remote in the direction you want to go. [2]

Along with the returning characters from the previous installment, new playable racers, hover boards, bikes, air riders, sailboats, air skates and other futuristic hover crafts will be available. The vehicles can eventually be upgraded. Sega has confirmed that there are 40 ways to upgrade each vehicle. They can even be upgraded during a race.[3]

So far sixteen tracks have been confirmed to be playable, eight worlds with two tracks in each.

Upgrading system

There is a new method called "Gear Change". Once you gain a certain amount of rings, your gear will gain an upgrade. Each gear has two or three upgrades and can be upgraded during a race via the A button. Some upgrades include modifying your Extreme Gear's look, higher top speed, an increased Gravity Points Gauge and character type specific upgrades, such as the ability to grind in rails as a Speed character, transform your Gear into a air ride/sailboat-type to fly through Dash Rings scattered throughout the stage as a Fly character, or transform your Gear into a invincible bike/wheel-type as a Power character.

Modes

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity there are two new modes added to the game: Survival Mode and Survival Ball. Survival Mode entails each player to use gravity in certain spots of the level to slam objects into opponents. Survival Ball mode is, simply put, a football game on Extreme Gear. You score points by throwing a ball into a goal.

Characters

There will be a total of 18 characters in the game. Characters of each type can take advantage of shortcuts of the same type. The types themselves are based on overall character abilities.
