←Administration index | MetaProject on open proxies (en-Wikipedia chapter) |
If you've been blocked as an open proxy, please see Help:blocked.
The multiwiki MetaProject on open proxies seeks to enforce the prohibition against editing from open or anonymising proxies by identifying, verifying, and indefinitely blocking open proxies and anonymity network exit nodes. To prevent abuse or vandalism, only proxy checks by verified users will be accepted. All users are welcome to discuss on the talk page, report possible proxies, or request that a blocked IP be rescanned. |
Alerts
Please report IP addresses you suspect are open proxies below. A project member will scan or attempt to connect to the proxy, and if confirmed will indefinitely block the address. IPs blocked on Wikipedia but not on other wikis should be moved to the MetaProject. Please use this format:

82.103.128.115 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | Previously blocked as an open proxy, but unblocked a few days ago. Comes back with some pretty intense personal attacks. Given the use of proxies by involved editors before like this, I would think it's an established editor using a proxy. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 15:46, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

67.159.44.138 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | Does not appear on any open proxy blacklists but... an Israeli diamond broker just appeared on Meta using this U.S.-registered IP requesting his widely spammed and freshly blacklisted domain be whitelisted. When I look at the cross-wiki edit history, I see an extremely eclectic bunch of edits spread over 16 different languages starting within the last month. Maybe's it's a new hotel IP or maybe it's a dynamically assigned satellite IP ... or maybe it's neither. It would be helpful to know so we can better understand this whitelisting request. --A. B. (talk) 21:43, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Open proxy Have not yet been able to successfully connect through it; however, it has a nonsensical hostname, and a fast scan revealed about 25 open ports, including some very odd ones. Also seems to be running a very poorly configured apache webserver that is likely quite exploitable. It seems entirely probable that this host can and has been used as a proxy. Already blocked, but just leaving for future reference. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:18, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

74.228.91.7 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | As with the reports below, this IP relates to the same incidents where a number of IP addresses apparently from different parts of the world have been adding the same nonsense to articles relating to Jerry Falwell and Baptists. Several turned out to be open proxies. If this one isn't, then he's spoofing the IP from somewhere, just like he did for 72.20.2.30 below. See edit history for In Touch Ministries for an example of identical vandal edits from different IP addresses. And in this edit he boasts about being able to spoof any address. =Axlq 06:57, 18 May 2007 (UTC) |

Inconclusive evidence It has VOIP and SSH running, which may be exploitable if they're not set up properly, but that's certainly not enough to warrant a block. All other ports secure. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

66.150.105.9 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | Two edits from this IP were definitely made by banned editor User:Chadbryant, but the others aren't his editing style, so I'm thinking its an open proxy. One Night In Hackney303 23:49, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Open proxy Running highly exploitable NNTP service on 119[2]. Not ideal as a webproxy, but it can be used as such--was able to scrape about half of google.com out of it. AmiDaniel (talk) 04:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC) |

64.202.165.201 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | I don't know if this is an open proxy or not, it's a GoDaddy server that hosts my domain. I'm not even sure that it's still blocked, it shows up here, but not in the blocked list below. My site does some screen scraping of Wikipedia (~150 articles a week) using PHP CURL. It started getting an ERR_ACCESS_DENIED error a few weeks ago and I'm wondering if this block is the cause. If it IS an open proxy, is there something I can do about it, contact GoDaddy or something? Thanks - Symmetric 06:16, 6 May 2007 (UTC) |
84.45.219.185 | user | talk | edits | log | RBL-google-whois | block-log | Does not appear to be an open proxy per here
and here. IP has requested unblocking, but request was denied. Appears to be registered to ENTANET, who are part of Enta (a British ISP). I don't think it's an open proxy per the links above. --SunStar Net talk 22:20, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Not open?
Proxies that do not seem to be open or anonymity network exit nodes should be listed here, rechecked at various times, and removed if still not conclusive.

Block
Proxies that are proven to be open or exit nodes for an anonymity network should be blocked on the English Wikipedia, then should be moved to the "Blocked" section. Please strip notes not directly useful to a globally blocking administrator, or to a future rechecking administrator (signatures and templates are not necessary).

Unblock
These requests are confirmed to be no longer open or anonymity network exit nodes. Once unblocked and the open proxy tag removed from their user pages, they should be moved to "Unblocked" below or posted directly to the MetaProject.
