Your efforts to calm the unacceptably brash editor are appreciated. At the same time, Wikipedia must report as factually and informatively as possible within the brevity constraints of the format. "[I]t is consensus that there is Etruscan substrate" in Tuscan is true as an expectation, at the level of banal truism by definition of Latin having gradually replaced Etruscan in the areas where the latter was spoken. The question of interest is whether there are substratum effects ''identifiable'' in Tuscan, and if so, what those are. Izzo's study all but put to rest serious claims of Etruscan origins of the ''gorgia'', and enough additional arguments have come forth buttressing his position that it's by now the standard view amongst scholars (summarized very briefly in the ''Tuscan gorgia'' Wikipedia article). If there are Etruscan substratum effects in other aspects of Tuscan (toponyms come to mind), those need to be identified specifically -- and briefly -- with references. A thorough examination of the book edited by Agostiniani and Giannelli might be a good place to start researching. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Etruscan language. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Jeppiz (talk) 23:03, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Etruscan substratum in Tuscan
Your efforts to calm the unacceptably brash editor are appreciated. At the same time, Wikipedia must report as factually and informatively as possible within the brevity constraints of the format. "[I]t is consensus that there is Etruscan substrate" in Tuscan is true as an expectation, at the level of banal truism by definition of Latin having gradually replaced Etruscan in the areas where the latter was spoken. The question of interest is whether there are substratum effects identifiable in Tuscan, and if so, what those are. Izzo's study all but put to rest serious claims of Etruscan origins of the gorgia, and enough additional arguments have come forth buttressing his position that it's by now the standard view amongst scholars (summarized very briefly in the Tuscan gorgia Wikipedia article). If there are Etruscan substratum effects in other aspects of Tuscan (toponyms come to mind), those need to be identified specifically -- and briefly -- with references. A thorough examination of the book edited by Agostiniani and Giannelli might be a good place to start researching. Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 14:53, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
