Disney Treasure is the upcoming sixth cruise ship owned and operated by Disney Cruise Line, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, due to enter service on December 21, 2024. Her sister ship, Disney Wish, was launched in 2022. Disney Treasure is the second ship of the Wish-class. She will enter service on December 21, 2024, and will be followed by Disney Destiny in November 2025. The other five ships in the entire fleet are the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish. The Disney Adventure will join the fleet in 2025.

History

In March 2016, Disney Cruise Line announced that it had commissioned two new ships, described as larger than Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy but with an equivalent number of staterooms.[2][3] A third ship of the class was announced on July 15, 2017 at the D23 Expo.[4] In March 2018, Disney Cruise Line released the first rendering of its new generation of cruise ships.[5][6] The 140,000-ton cruise liners would be LNG-powered and would accommodate at least 2,500 guests.[7] In January 2019, the class of ship was confirmed as Triton in public documents published by Port Canaveral,[8][9] however, is now following the standard naming of class after the first ship.[10] The first of these ships, Disney Wish, was launched in June 2022.

On September 11, 2022, the sixth ship was officially announced as the Disney Treasure at the D23 Expo. The ship will be inspired by the theme of adventure, with the Grand Hall inspired by the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace which draws on inspiration from real-world Asia and Africa, as well as paying homage to Agrabah.[11]

On November 27, 2022, the first section of the ship arrived at Meyer Werft where construction is taking place.[12] The floating engine room unit ("FERU", 140 x 39 Meters, including MAN type 12V 51/60DF engines and two LNG tanks) was built at Neptun Werft, Rosrock and was trasfered to Meyer Werft later.[13][14][15][16][17][18]

On March 30, 2023, the keel laying ceremony occurred at Meyer Werft with the keel coin showcasing Voyager Minnie, Captain Minnie's new adventure-themed outfit for the Disney Treasure.[19][20] On July 12, 2023, Disney Parks Blog started an official "ship's log" documenting the shipbuilding process of the Disney Treasure. This was updated on July 18, 2023 to debut the ship's stern characters: Captain Hook and Peter Pan.[21] The hull of the ship was completed in December 2023.[22] She will set sail on her maiden voyage on December 21, 2024, from Port Canaveral, Florida, and will include 7-night voyages to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.[23]

The ship was floated in the drydock in March 2024 for the first time[24] and left the drydock in August.[25][26]

Design

The ship is set to have a gross tonnage of 144,000 GT, a length of 1,119 ft, and a width of 128 ft. She will have a capacity of 1,555 crew and 4,000 passengers with 1,250 staterooms.[7]

On September 5, 2023, Disney Cruise Line shared a first look at their newest ship, the Disney Treasure, set to embark on December 21, 2024. The Disney Treasure, similar to the Disney Wish, has 1,250 staterooms, along with several restaurants, immersive spaces and experiences themed to various Disney characters and properties, including Walt Disney Pictures, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Pixar. The ship will feature a Coco-themed restaurant, a Tomorrow Tower Suite inspired by EPCOT and a Jungle Cruise-inspired lounge.

In October 2023, Disney announced that the ship will also feature a bar themed after its attraction The Haunted Mansion, a first in the cruise line's history.[27]

Recreation

On-board activities

The ship features a water coaster at sea, called the AquaMouse, which is similar to the Disney Wish's version of the water coaster, but it will include a brand-new Mickey and Minnie Mouse short called Curse of the Golden Egg, which will be expected to include immersive show scenes, special effects and incredible ocean views, with some splashing, drifting and sliding through a mysterious ancient temple in search of legendary treasure.

Entertainment

Disney Treasure will include three theatres:

  • Walt Disney Theatre (1274 seats; live original productions: The Tale of Moana, Beauty and the Beast and Disney Seas the Adventure)
  • Wonderland Cinema
  • Neverland Cinema

Rotational dining

Every night of a Disney Treasure cruise, guests dine at a different restaurant. This is called "rotational dining". On a Disney ship guests rotate along with their servers which helps develop the relationship between diner and wait staff.[28]

The rotational dining restaurants on the Disney Treasure will be 1923, located on deck 3 aft; Worlds of Marvel, located on deck 4 aft; and Plaza de Coco, located on deck 5 aft. As well as rotational dining, the Disney Treasure also has two specialty restaurants: PALO Steakhouse and Enchanté, which incur an additional cost and are exclusively for adults.
