Thanks for being a great editor!! :) Babysharkboss2 (talk) 18:34, 1 September 2023 (UTC) |
- Babysharkboss2! Thank you for taking the time to leave me this barnstar and your very kind words. It means a lot to me, and I appreciate it very much. Always happy to help, of course! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:42, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
Question from AndrewSan12 (18:29, 3 September 2023)
Hey, I would like to create a article including some of the United State's largest towns by population, please let me know if this is possible. --AndrewSan12 (talk) 18:29, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi AndrewSan12! So long as the articles don't already exist - sure you can! I recommend visiting Wikipedia's getting started page and completing Wikipedia's new user tutorial first. When you're ready, use this page to write your first article. It will help you a lot with many different things before you decide to "take the plunge" and do so. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need any assistance, and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:54, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Request for rollback permissions 2
Hi Oshwah! I hope you're doing well. Rollback has been great, although I had a lot less time for counter-vandalism than I expected. I also had some issues with Huggle at the start, but eventually got the hang of it. NotAGenious (talk) 16:36, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi NotAGenious! I had a relaxing 3-day weekend, though I do wish I would've spent more of it towards not being lazy... :-D No worries; just build your experience when you're available and able to. Wikipedia doesn't come with deadlines, and you can take all the time you need. If you get busy, want to focus your efforts elsewhere - no worries! Rollback will be there for you to continue gaining experience; it's not going anywhere... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:59, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
- Haha, glad to hear! I think that the trial phase ended yesterday, could you take a look at my contribs and evaluate if I could get the permission granted again? NotAGenious (talk) 04:52, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello. I would like a favor from you. Would it be possible to take all the photos from this down [1]. Anyways thanks. A.R.M. 00:35, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi ARMcgrath! Welcome to Wikipedia! The Wikimedia Commons is actually an entire different project under the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm only an administrator on the English Wikipedia, so there's nothing that I can do. You'll need to speak to an administrator on the Wikimedia Commons website for help. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:02, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Question from MahmetArslan (20:03, 13 September 2023)
I have translated "Proto-Italic language" article to Turkish via creating a new article but I can't add the langauge link on WikiData, probably due to the semi-protection. How can I add it? --MahmetArslan (talk) 20:03, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi MahmetArslan! Welcome to Wikipedia! You'll want to talk to an administrator on the WikiData project; if that information is page protected (if that's even the right term? I'm actually not an expert regarding their internal processes there.), you will likely be able to file a request for removal of protection, or (if anything) at least be able to request that the change be made on your behalf. Your intent to modify that data seems straightforward and non-controversial; I doubt you'll be met with any kind of resistance or push-back. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else. I wish you a great day and happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:07, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Question from Echidime (14:46, 15 September 2023)
Hello Oshwah, thank you for being there to assist me. How do I say that I think a certain person should have been given a mention I a list of notable people? --Echidime (talk) 14:46, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Echidime, you can propose changes at that article's talk page. However, if the notable person has an article, you are encouraged to go for it and add them to the list. CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 15:01, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Oshwah. I've been going through IP indefs. Is Special:Contributions/171.250.75.131 supposed to be a CUblock indef? -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 03:22, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Tamzin! Thanks for doing that. I try to do that at least once a year and talk to any admins who might've accidentally indefinitely blocked an IP (such as with this block here). Nope, that was an accident! Fixed. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:47, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Question from AzuCena(12$345) (23:38, 19 September 2023)
Hello,
How do I publish the articlee into Wikipedia? --AzuCena(12$345) (talk) 23:38, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- (by talk page stalker) Hello, AzuCena(12$345)! Writing an acceptable Wikipedia article is a task close to impossible for a beginner. There's really many things to learn here. If you prefer learning by practice, I would recommend reading many articles first, looking into their internal structure and trying to fix or add minor details. Meanwhile read Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines. However, if you rather want to study the basics before acting, the Help:Your first article may be a good starting point. And don't hesitate to visit Wikipedia:Teahouse with any questions you might have. Good luck! --CiaPan (talk) 09:31, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- AzuCena(12$345) - What CiaPan said above is correct. Thank you CiaPan for responding while I was away. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:14, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
The Civility Barnstar | |
Hey, Oshwah. I was going to send you a funny custom template, but since that was a failure, I'm giving you this one, for always being good-humored about stuff. (And on top of that, just being a great editor in general). Professor Penguino (talk) 21:39, 23 September 2023 (UTC) |
- Hi Professor Penguino! Thank you for taking the time to not only spend time with trying to create a custom barnstar template for me (I'm sure it would've given me a good laugh), but also for writing this barnstar and for your kind words. It means a lot to me, and it helps by showing me that all of the time and effort that I've given to this project (I've been here almost 17 years now) actually makes an impact and a difference here. Thank you, I really appreciate it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:16, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
Question from Dale McQuaid (06:11, 24 September 2023)
How do I start a table? --Dale McQuaid (talk) 06:11, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Dale McQuaid! Welcome to Wikipedia! The Wikipedia help page on tables is the place you'll want to go to. It'll give you everything you're looking for, plus more! The short answer is this: How to create a table depends on which editor you're using. Are you using the Visual Editor to make your edits to pages, or are you editing the pages' Wikitext manually (the "old fashioned way")? That document will give instructions for both. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:48, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks.
- I suppose the old way. I added a ton of info to that particular page at least a decade ago and now, most of it's gone! What little is left looks like it's all mixed up or badly edited. I'm wondering if I should even waste my time correcting it, again, if someone else is gonna come by and screw it all up, again. Although it IS a labour of love, I'm not just doing it for shits & giggles! I'm doing it to inform others that might be interested. Dale McQuaid (talk) 21:21, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
- Dale McQuaid - It's even easier than that, actually! Look in the edit history of the article, and use that page to locate the revisions you made in the past. If you find any, you can click n the timestamp next to it open a page editor so that you can edit it. Just know that if you edit and save an old revision, it will save as the latest revision (replace the entire article with your revision). I would not revert the entire article to one of your past revisions; other editors tend to take this negatively sometimes. Instead, you should use the page history, locate the revision of the article that you made, and then use that content to add and improve the current revision as necessary. Copy and paste tables over as needed, too. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to help! :-D Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:34, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- I have no intention of deleting what's there and replacing it with what I wrote before. Mostly just adding to it and correcting mistakes that I've spotted. This is the Dickie Goodman page. Whoever did the last update mentioned that a record by Buchanan & Ancell was one of DICKIE'S records! Other than Bill Buchanan being an ex-partner of Dickie's, that record had nothing to do with Dickie.
- Dickie's son, Jon, wrote a book about Dickie's life and asked me to compile a list of all of Dickie's records for inclusion in the back of the book so, because of that and the fact that I know have the biggest collection of break-in records in the world, I think if ANYBODY should make corrections and additions, it should be me (or Jon, but, even Jon doesn't have very many of his dad's records because Dickie never bothered to hang onto any. I'm only missing one out of all 80!)
- The list that's at the bottom of that page now is possibly what I wrote there at least a decade ago but, it looks like a lot of the info I would've included is missing and the running order is completely wrong. So, what I was thinking of doing was making one table of all of his solo break-in records (including flip sides, labels, record numbers and release dates) another for those he didn't do as break-ins and another for records he produced and/or wrote for other artists.
- I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Hopefully, later this week.
- Take care!! Dale McQuaid (talk) 04:22, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Question from Healthymood (15:52, 24 September 2023)
hi. i want to write about my company "healthy mood" ltd How can i do that can you give me some instructions please? --Healthymood (talk) 15:52, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Healthymood! Welcome to Wikipedia! Sorry, but you should not create pages or even add content to any pages where you have a personal conflict of interest with. This (as you'd imagine) is for obvious and many reasons. A big reason is that creating, editing, or expanding an article that you have a conflict of interest with makes it impossible for you to add content that's written in to reflect a neutral point of view.
- Also, what are your references? You cannot "cite yourself" as a reference due to having a close relationship or experience with the article subject (your business). Adding content citing one's relationship, experience, association, or even one's own website, work, or research constitutes original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. This is because it's impossible for other editors and readers to verify that content is accurate and true. It's as if I were to say, "I'm the President of the United States". Would you believe me? No! You'd want some kind of verification, source, or proof to show that what I'm saying is true. If you asked me for that information and I responded, "I'm citing myself as the proof" - you wouldn't just disbelieve my statement, you'd probably laugh and think that I'm crazy. Wikipedida's verifiability and No original research policies state that all content on Wikipedia must be attributable to a reliable source. In addition, any specific information such as direct or spoken quotes, dates, data, information that's instantaneous, or other content likely to be challenged or removed - must be directly attributed to a reliable source via a in-line citation.
- My advice for you is to find some topics (like computer hardware, or butterflies) that interest you, and contribute by helping to improve articles in those topic areas that interest you. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:12, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
Question from Bestcom Tv (04:13, 29 September 2023)
Hello sir, please how do i write autobiography? --Bestcom Tv (talk) 04:13, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Bestcom Tv! Welcome to Wikipedia! Per Wikipedia's content guideline on autobiographies, writing an article about yourself is highly discouraged behavior on Wikipedia. Autobiographies are problematic, as they usually contain significant amounts of original research (which is not allowed on Wikipedia), and are usually biased to favor the article subject (it's nearly impossible for users to write their own article and reflect a neutral point of view - another requirement for all Wikipedia articles). Users and patrollers will also bring forth the concerns regarding Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines as well, for... obvious reasons. I obviously can't force you to do anything, but I highly recommend that you don't spend any time toward creating this autobiography of yourself. In the end, the article will very likely not last long, and will end up being deleted. My advice: Do not waste your time. Instead, think of a topic or subject that you're interested in (Examples: Computers, Ants, Statues, Basketball), and use this page to find a WikiProject where users with the exact same interest as you work together to locate and improve articles related to that subject. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks, and happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:43, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
Question from KeanCrod (17:48, 30 September 2023)

Editing Wikis isn't easy for me. :-( --KeanCrod (talk) 18:12, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
Nevermind, editing is fine! --KeanCrod (talk) 18:17, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi KeanCrod! I'm glad that you feel like you're getting the hang of things on Wikipedia. Editing is a very important activity for you to become proficient with. Remember that Wikipedia has a getting started page as well as an interactive tutorial - both are good places to gain experience with editing before you begin editing real articles. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you run into any questions or need help with something. I'll be happy to answer them and assist you. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:38, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
please my page was deleted
please why did you delete my page. this is me myself creating my Wikipedia page. I'm Switspecial by name a Nigeria Singer, Song Writer. please you can check my songs on apple music to verify. my stage name is Switspecial Switspecial (talk) 20:23, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Switspecial, and welcome to Wikipedia! The content on your user page met G11 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria for being advertising and promotion about (presumably) yourself. Creating content about yourself in an article-like fashion is considered G11, as well as adding content about yourself as if it were a resume. Please review the policy pages I linked you to here, and please let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to answer them and clarify anything you find confusing. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:34, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from KeanCrod (15:16, 3 October 2023)
My user page is deleted, isn't it? --KeanCrod (talk) 15:16, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing those sections, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:45, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from Birkenhead01 (16:49, 5 October 2023)
Hello there Oshwah, I've been advised to sign up in order to address some issues on a page about myself. I'm not quite sure the best way to go about it as the page has been edited before and the information deleted keeps being added by a particular editor. I don't want to get into a long winded cycle where nothing gets resolved, but I also don't think it's right to do nothing...can you advise the best way to address the issues? Thanks. --Birkenhead01 (talk) 16:49, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Birkenhead01, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia's policies and guidelines highly discourage editing or even participating in discussions with articles if you have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject - especially with articles that are about you. Editing articles that you have a conflict of interest with typically causes many issues and other problems. First, it's nearly impossible for you to add content that reflects a neutral point of view. Instead, I would suggest that you add your concerns to the article's talk page so they can be discussed with other users. You can also use the Tea House to ask questions as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for this. I have added a couple of notes to Talk but nothing has been done about the issue. It's so trivial I'm sure nobody really cares about it - other than me. Birkenhead01 (talk) 09:12, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Birkenhead01 (talk page watcher) I think the requests, of which I can only see one, have been missed because you did not know about Edit COI. I have deployed this on your behalf. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 09:45, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. I didn't know about that! Thanks for investigating on my behalf. Birkenhead01 (talk) 09:47, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm wary about making any changes at all to the page myself as I've been advised that's not a good idea. But do I need to do this myself? I was hoping that I could just draw attention to it and that it would be sorted that way. Birkenhead01 (talk) 09:52, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Birkenhead01 You are wise not to edit the article directly. Generally the correction of indisputable facts is allowed, but matters of opinion are guarded jealously by the community. An editor who is not you might argue successfully that the material is uncited, and should go, potentially being added to a different part, not the lead, when a reference is forthcoming.
- Articles on one's self are really best ignored. I suspect that is difficult to do, but they truly should not influence one's career since they are intended (not always successfully) to record what is said in reliable independent sources about the subject of the article. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 10:03, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, absolutely! Birkenhead01 (talk) 11:06, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Birkenhead01 - I fully agree with Timtrent's statement: It was a very wise move on your part to refrain from getting directly involved with the article, and seek help and information from the community and work with them instead. You'd be surprised (or... actually, probably not...), but I'd say in my experience, a good 97% of people that have a conflict of interest with a certain article, or that have extremely personal, emotional, or radical views on certain article subjects - they choose to try the other route. They'll ignore Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, make edits to "fix" the article and turn it into exactly what they want it to say, claim ownership if it and tell people to stand back and get away, respond with two middle fingers toward other users' calm and genuine attempts to assist and diffuse the situation, edit war and revert everyone's attempts to undo the article changes, and on and so forth. They can get pretty noisy... that is, until I step into the room. A flick of a switch here, a push of a few buttons here, here and (at times) there, and the disruption is done. ;-) I don't like going that route with users, but their behavior at times leaves me wondering if they wanted to get blocked. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:46, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Pranesh Ravikumar (00:34, 11 October 2023)
Hi Oswah,
I recently came by one of editor mentioning about MOS:CLAIM edit below which was made from my end. Since the topic is contentious substituted with more neutral words like said, stated and others as per MOS:CLAIM. Could you advise. [2] --Pranesh Ravikumar (talk) 00:34, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Pranesh Ravikumar! Thanks for leaving me a message with your request for advice. If someone is adding synonyms for the word "said" that you believe makes the statement appear loaded or implies contentious intent, you're of course welcome to be bold - modify the article and fix it with what you believe is a better synonym. If the user changes your modification back, start a discussion on the article's talk page. Do not engage in edit warring with other editors, where back-and-forth reverting of each other's changes occur. The best way to prevent edit warring is to never revert another editor's changes that were made in order to revert your changes. Discuss your concerns with the user and try and work things out and make a decision together as to what synonym should be used instead. See Wikipedia's policies and guidelines on consensus, the bold, revert, discuss cycle, and how to resolve disputes with others. They are great resources that will provide you with the assistance and guidance you're looking for. If you have any questions that you'd like me to answer, or if there's anything within those guideline pages that I can help clarify, please let me know. I'll be happy to help! :-D Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Oshwah thanks for the reply actually the scenario is that the contentious article has words "claimed" and as per MOS:CLAIM, "To say that someone asserted or claimed something can call their statement's credibility into question, by emphasizing any potential contradiction or implying disregard for evidence".So in this case could we substitute the word with other neutral synonymn like said or stated https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1179492050 Pranesh Ravikumar (talk) 11:17, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

To protect yourself from issues like this in the future, I recommend using a password management tool for all of your accounts and login credentials. I personally use LastPass, pay for it annually, and I've rarely had problems. There are obviously other password managers out there; just try some out and choose the one that fits you the best. HA! Yes, that page has been there for some time now... If you want to create and add a userbox there, have at it! I obviously don't edit the page due to my obligation to remain uninvolved and avoid editing pages that I have a conflicts of interest with (users have a good way of twisting words to point fingers). Question from BeingObjective (16:11, 18 October 2023)
Greetings - seeking advice.
There is an article on the TROPHY armored vehicle protection system.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trophy_(countermeasure)
It is factually awfully written, I had assumed the author was not a native English speaker. I did review the talk section and despite numerous fairly useful points made - the article remains in very poor shape.
I did change a few headings to see if the 'primary editor' was open to collaboration and the editor immediately reverted to the prior condition. No dialog - no consideration.
The article just does not make sense - again, it reads as though written by an individual who might not be a native English speaker - though the person's profile suggests otherwise.
I'd primarily like to collaborate with the editor - I am sure a lot of work has been done and it needs refining to meet basic English language usage.
I am also happy to completely redo the article - the title should be 'TROPHY Active Armor Defense' - I do not want to get into 'edit wars' and I am sensitive to civility - if you review the editors profile and user page - there is an intensely smug and hostile tone.
Your thinking on the matter?
I totally comprehend this is the nature of WP - and perhaps the aggressive defense of something one has written is not that unusual - if there is a procedure to 'flag' such badly written articles - I would like to trigger this - I know there are templates to achieve this - perhaps the strategy I'd like to take.
This is not a subtle matter of opinion situation - the article makes absolutely no sense in parts, even the headings are incomprehensible. --BeingObjective (talk) 16:11, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from DarfinTwinkleToes (16:19, 18 October 2023)
Hi. I'm new to wikipedia and would like some guidance with my first edits to make sure I'm doing it right. I think I found some minor vandalism and/or a hoax on the Bitch_Creek article. This change looks like vandalism [3]. I checked the references and the information is not supported by the linked sources. Can you help me understand the process for tagging and reverting? What are the next steps that I can take? My instincts are to simply revert the change but wanted to check with my mentor first. Best wishes. --DarfinTwinkleToes (talk) 16:19, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi there! You can generally remove such unverifiable information with a short explanation of why in the edit summary (eg, "cited source does not verify the claim, see WP:BURDEN"). Linking the relevant policy like that (in this case WP:BURDEN) is a good way to keep your explanation short. If you need a longer explanation, you can add it to the talk page and refer people there in your edit, but I don't think that's needed here. —siroχo 17:20, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Christopher Columbus
I started an Rfc 4 regarding the question of whether Christopher Columbus was an Italian or a Genoese explorer. There is also some Rfc 5 from 5 months ago but it is not closed. Would you be able to see what's up with that older Rfc, and given that there is a question in terms of nationality is my new Rfc relevant considering that I am not asking the question in terms of nationality because the sources do not speak in that context. If you are not interested, can you forward this question to a quality admin so that this situation can be clarified. The problem is also in that nationality, because I see that some editors use that argument, but the problem is that sources do not use that argument. So in that sense, the interested admin would have to clarify it to the editors. Mikola22 (talk) 07:39, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Mikola22! I apologize for the delay getting back to you. Life keeps getting busier and busier... My question to you: Have you've seen or read through the section of Wikipedia's manual of style that discusses this exact situation? It's located within the biography section of the guide and is located here. This guideline serves to reflect what consensus has already been reached regarding how to use ethnic descriptions on the lead section of an article. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this guideline, and I'll be happy to answer them. If you're still looking for a discussion about this, you're welcome to ask at the Wikipedia Teahouse. There are many editors who pay attention there; they'll be able to provide you with any input or information that you're looking for. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:50, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. My Rfc question was in terms replacement of information 'Italian' for 'Genoese'. So I guess that as far as the quoted rules are concerned, everything fine, considering that information which exists in the introduction 'Italian explorer' has been there for a long time without any major problems. You say me if I'm wrong somewhere in that sense. Mikola22 (talk) 04:20, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Mikola22! I just looked into both of the terms. I wasn't aware that Genoese and Italian were closely-related. My initial thought without that knowledge was that they were different ethnics from vastly different origins (German vs Japanese or American, for example). That's why I linked you to that manual of style page on the context of ethnic backgrounds. You'd be surprised with how many disputes occur because someone was born in one country, but became well-known or notable in another (think Albert Einstein).

- In your case, it might be best to ask some related WikiProject groups - such as WikiProject United States, WikiProject History, or WikiProject Biography. I've done this many times when I had questions about an article I was editing that was closely related to, and the members there were very helpful. Of course, if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to lend a hand. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- I asked this question because I do not edit introductory part of the article in an editorial sense, I only ask editors in Rfc on talk page whether or not similar('Italian-Genoese') information should be replaced. And in that sense, I think everything is fine. But in any case, feel free to guide me or warn me about some things in this case, if you see that it is necessary. I know there are articles with many disputes but the articles of historical figures also have the problem of anachronism. So some information would have to be used in the context of time, and this is my motive in starting this Rfc and not which nationality he is because there is no information about it in the sources. Ultimately, everything is in the hands of most editors. Mikola22 (talk) 05:50, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from 1939Lady (14:00, 28 October 2023)
Hello, Oshwah How do I begin? I have marked "Biology," and the two "Easy" levels are checked. How do I ask to see, and receive, an article to practice on? I have free time nearly every day, and winter has come to mid-central Minnesota, so I am indoors! And looking forward to hearing from you. --1939Lady (talk) 14:01, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi 1939Lady, I’m one of Oshwah’s talk page stalkers. We have this computer program called SuggestBot, which as its name suggests, gives you a list of articles that it thinks you might like to edit. Here’s some information on how to set it up. You can have it make recommendations based on the articles you’ve already edited, articles that you specify (e.g. Biology), or even entire categories (e.g. Category:Biology) of interest. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 18:02, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you Helen -- but I hope it's your screen name, "Degenerate," not your surname! I'd like to try the easiest level of editing, as I've edited things for donkey's years, but not for Wikipedia. And, I don't see yet whether one practices on articles already posted on Wikipedia, or ones you have in the pipeline awaiting editing. While a await a reply, it's fun just to see the screen names! I, who have never seen Twitter or such, find it fun. 1939Lady (talk) 19:03, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- @1939Lady Yes, thankfully ‘Degenerate’ isn’t my surname. This username is based on an inside joke with my friend after I told him that I’m a writer. He said that my pen name should be ‘Helen Degenerate’, so now it is… at least for this site.
- As for whether you’re supposed to edit preexisting articles or ones being created, the beautiful thing about Wikipedia is that there isn’t really a set way to go about it. If you see an article needing improvement, regardless of how long it’s been around, be bold and go for it.
- The easiest level of editing to get started with would probably be copyediting— fixing typos, correcting grammar, and the like. There’s a whole category of articles that need a bit of maintenance. Since you already have experience editing other things, I think you’ll find it a breeze to pick up. Also, if you want to experiment a little before jumping in, that’s okay too! You have a sandbox where you can make test edits. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:24, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello,How do i add a person in this list without having to scroll for so long and copy and pasting it.There must be a better way. --ItsMeGabeProductions (talk) 12:09, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- @ItsMeGabeProductions: I don’t think that’s the list you want to use-- it’s automatically generated (and maintained) by a bot. Here’s the one that gets updated manually. You’ll need to create a new section for The Philippines though, as there isn’t currently one on the page. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 16:43, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- ItsMeGabeProductions - Adding to HelenDegenerate's response above: If you do happen to run into an extremely long list and need to quickly scroll to the bottom, simply press the END key on your keyboard. It will jump you to the bottom of the webpage. If you're editing a page's WikiText (where you have a caret cursor in a text editor), just hold down the CONTROL key, then press END to jump to the bottom of the document in the text editor. The opposite applies to situations that you need to quickly jump to the top of any page or text editor - just press the HOME instead of the END key. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:07, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Instead, add a discussion to the article's talk page and ask for assistance. Other editors who watch or regularly edit the article will usually always be happy to help you. If your concerns aren't addressed after adding a talk page discussion, you can always ask for assistance at the Wikipedia Teahouse, a place for new and novice users to ask questions, receive assistance, locate important policies and guidelines, and connect with experienced editors with advanced questions. November Articles for creation backlog drive
Hello Oshwah:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
- Good luck to those who participate! What's the prize given to the user in first place when this ends? ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:14, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Greetings Oshwah, how can a mentor help me in my use of Wikipedia? Regards, P. Jannetta MarioJannetta (talk) 08:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi MarioJannetta! Welcome to Wikipedia! Mentors are assigned to all new users who chose to have one, and they can generally answer and assist you with all of "the basics". If this is what you're looking for help with, I would start by reviewing Wikipedia's Getting Started page. It will provide you with an extensive amount of guides, help pages, and tutorial pages. Another great guide to help new Wikipedia users to get started and familiar with basic concepts is "The Wikipedia Adventure". It's an interactive step-by-step tutorial that guides you through important pages and shows you how to do basic important tasks. It's a great resource for people who prefer to learn this way vs reading through text. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so! :-D Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Please help me understand this DRV
I nom'd List of roles in the British Army for AfD because it fails WP:NLIST. The AfD argued that NLIST does not matter or some ILIKEIT rationale. The AfD closed NC, since only one other editor agreed with me. I took it to DRV which concluded that indeed ILIKEIT carries the day. I understand that a guideline is not a policy. What I don't understand is that the community consensus creates rules for various things but then community members decide that the prior consensus doesn't matter: it's anarchy all the way down. Why are our editors doing this? I'm just a guy working the NPP backlog. I have no dog in this fight. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:29, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Chris troutman! I can provide you with any dog you wish - from cute little snugly ones (my favorite) to vicious beasts that would make the most evil and wicked of people cower in terror and fear. But anyways, on to your questions... consensus can be a very tricky and sneaky process. My experience on this project has, over time, helped me to "define" consensus given certain situations, but it's never going to be on-the-spot or perfect in any sense. For example: An AFD is created. Five people say to keep the article but without making a decent or in-depth explanation behind their thoughts or with any guidelines cited. One user (not counting the nominator) responds in opposition with delete, but with an in-depth analysis and with relevant guidelines cited that support the argument. This question is nearly always asked by someone in most RFA discussions in recent years - "What would you do?" Obviously, we would close the discussion as delete, since consensus here weighed much more toward the argument explanation rather than simply the number of users who agreed otherwise.
- Now take the same situation. This time, instead of five users saying that the article should be kept, let's now make it one hundred users. It's very easy for users to state that the discussion should end with the same result as the first example (me being one of those users much of the time). However, like it or not, the number of users behind the one argument will begin to gain more "decision weight" than the one user (in this example) who believes otherwise and with a well written explanation and reason. Let's go even further: What about the same AFD, but where two hundred users side with keeping the article? Three hundred users? One thousand users? You can see where the number of users who stand behind a certain outcome can begin to outweigh the one user in opposition, and despite that user's correct, in-depth, compelling argument. Unfortunately, there's no "hard line" here... Users with a strong argument for one outcome should of course outweigh those who don't agree and who fail to sufficiently explain why. One thing to understand as well: WP:ILIKEIT and WP:IDONTLIKEIT is something that's much harder and extremely difficult for many users to recognize than others. In my humble opinion, it takes years of experience, skill, personality, and a lot of internal reflection and self-thought (to name just a few things) for someone to begin to possess enough emotional intelligence to notice the signs that they're factoring WP:ILIKEIT or WP:IDONTLIKEIT into their decision, and to consciously set those thoughts aside as "irrelevant" and weigh-in the discussion with only the relevant guidelines in mind. I personally believe that it's very easy for me to see tell-tale signs that irrelevant biases are beginning to intrude my rationale with a decision that I'm building, and to not allow those thoughts to influence or become a factor with that decision - much like yourself. :-)
- Consensus building is not perfect, nor will it ever be. I'd even go as far as saying that any kind of decision-making strategy involving a group of people that we (as people) create, test, and implement - past, present, or future - will never be perfect. In the end, we just need to remember to do our best to make decisions with the project's mission, integrity, accuracy, and global impact in mind. We can't control everything that happens in life... Just follow the post-decision processes to have them reviewed. Be patient, positive, kind, respectful, and present a detailed and satisfactory argument behind your thoughts, and I'll say that you can confidently tell yourself that you genuinely tried your best to influence the right decision. ;-)
- I hope my response here was at least a tiny bit helpful to you. If I missed something or if there's anything else that I can expand upon and provide you with input, insight, or guidance with - please let me know! I'll be happy to help in any way that I can. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:12, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I’d add some additional considerations as someone who relisted the discussion and all-but-called-for a no consensus close: NLIST is possibly the most unwieldy of the subject-specific notability guidelines, because RS rarely discuss lists of subjects as-such, despite potentially providing abundant relevant verifiable information. In this case, we had an article that is verifiable, non-promotional information regarding a potentially informative aspect (the list) of a definitely notable topic (the British Army). I think that rather than just being ILIKEIT, the stronger keep arguments made a case to the effect that the article’s content was encyclopedic. Is that an ironclad argument? No, and it more editors had !voted delete it would likely have been closed as delete even if the !vote count was close. But situations like this, where an overwhelming majority of editors makes reasonable arguments in keeping with Wikipedia’s broader goals, if not specific guidelines, are exactly why we have WP:IAR. signed, Rosguill talk 21:46, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Emendationum (15:05, 9 November 2023)
Hi Oshwah, thank you for offering to mentor. I am going to rewrite the Wiki entry for a brewery I am involved with. I have edited financial investor letters for years so I hope I am familiar with the required tone, but I haven't done anything on Wikipedia. May I ask if I can keep the changes offline in a live document for many days as I add more info? I want to keep working on it but not risk publishing a half finished article. Thank you! --Emendationum (talk) 15:05, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Emendationum! Welcome to Wikipedia! In general, anyone is welcome to keep their changes "offline" and then publish them at once when they feel that the changes are ready for deployment into production (being added to Wikipedia). However, I have concerns in regards to some of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines regarding your desire to edit this article - specifically, Wikipedia's policy prohibiting original research, and Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. Please take some time to review these pages and understand them before you make any changes to the article. Following their directions and advice will prevent you from spending hours, if not days of time - toward building up a modification just for those changes to be removed by someone referencing one or both of these pages. Also, if you're being paid or compensated in any way, shape, or form to make these edits, you are required to disclose this publicly. Just follow the directions here in order to do this properly. In the end, I highly recommend that you focus your time and effort toward editing articles that interest you, but where you do not have these issues I listed. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:10, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Oshwah, thank you. I am not paid by this corporate group but I am personally involved (I am Chairman). How should that be disclosed or should I open it to peer review before publishing? How do I set up a page for review BEFORE publishing please? Emendationum (talk) 11:25, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Question / Request from Coastie43
Hi Oswah,
I've noted in my watchlist you've recently blocked an account that I've reported a while ago at sockpuppet investigations with the diffs provided plus reasoning (as that blocked account has similar contributions to the Master of the blocked sock). Would you be able to assist with either getting the relevant administrators or if you are one of the admins at Checkuser to close that case, Thanks. Coastie43 (talk) 01:55, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Coastie43 - Done. Thanks for letting me know about the SPI report. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:16, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Queen Raducanu! Welcome to Wikipedia! this page will guide you through how to do this. Just make sure that you are not violating Wikipedia's policies on copyrights; doing so is a serious violation and will get you into hot water. I'd avoid that if I were you. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:17, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Noobiemaster299 at UTRS appeal #81167
Noobiemaster299 has requested unblocking at UTRS appeal #81167. This is one of your range blocks, a /20 range blocked so as to prevent signed-in users. Do you mind if I convert that to an anon-only block? I've run checkuser and it looks to me like this would be appropriate. Sorry for not linking directly to the IP range block here, I'm being mindful of privacy. The range block was for one month and expires in ten days. Happy to link directly via email if you wish. --Yamla (talk) 19:35, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Going live for my Amanda Spann article
Hi! I have finished my Amanda Spann article but it's not letting me go live for it? Is there any reason why that is? Thank you. Zremu18 (talk) 05:54, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Zremu18! Welcome to Wikipedia! I found the content you wrote on User:Zremu18/Amanda spann. I advise that you merge your page's content into the content on the Draft:Amanda Spann page (if Draft:Amanda Spann didn't already exist, I would just move your page there for you). After everything is merged together, if you believe that the page is ready for someone to review it to be a live article, simply submit it for review. To submit the page for review, simply edit the Draft:Amanda Spann page and remove the "t" from the middle of the AFC submission template on the top line (so that it's now

), and save your changes. Removing that "t" parameter from that Template adds the draft to the list of pages waiting for a review, and marks the article as submitted. You're of course welcome to edit the page, add more content, or make changes while a review is pending. Submitting the draft will officially put it in line to be reviewed. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need assistance with submitting the draft, and I'll be happy to help. Good luck to you! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:06, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Boardy1 (02:23, 18 November 2023)
hello I am here to add information to Paul Stepanek Boardman including articles authored published in Newsweek --Boardy1 (talk) 02:23, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Boardy1! Welcome to Wikipedia! Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. Those tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Of course, if you need help, you're welcome to ask. I'll be happy to lend a hand. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:16, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Dev3999 (13:18, 19 November 2023)
Thank you so much! I really want to learn. I have read a lot of Wikipedia and this is the first time that I am encouraged to want to collaborate with this project. I am available for any suggestion. A priori, I would really like to be able to collaborate with translations from Spanish and Portuguese to English. or be able to create pages that already exist in Spanish, and recreate them in English. I don't know if this is possible here. I also really like the summary information templates. I have observed that some articles do not have them. So I'll start little by little. but these are my goals. Thank you very much once again for the possibility of growing in knowledge just by dedicating a little of my time to collaborate. I have learned a lot through this medium. --Dev3999 (talk) 13:18, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Dev3999! Thanks for the message! I've also learned a significant amount of knowledge from Wikipedia by reading and contributing to various articles and topics. Take some time and review Wikipedia's translation guide page. It will provide you with information and details that will help you with properly performing these tasks. Of course, if you run into questions or need anything else, you know where to find me. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:54, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from ED3202 (18:01, 19 November 2023)
Hello. An alleged bot keeps removing my contribution in a talk page. I cannot directly edit the related Wikipedia page, but I included reasons and sources. Nobody replied nor fixed the page, and my contribution was removed. Why is this happening?
This is the change, my contribution was near line 145:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:2023_Hamas_attack_on_Israel&oldid=prev&diff=1185830670 --ED3202 (talk) 18:01, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- (by talk reader) @ED3202: Your comments are archived by bot probably because of the talk page settings. As it says at top:
"You must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days"
. You don't qualify. Articles about contentious matters bring out too much commentary and this is a control we have to prevent the talk page being overrun. While I understand you concern, please let our longterm editors write the encyclopedia without interrupting that work. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:14, 19 November 2023 (UTC)- I'd gladly save my time if your "longterm editors" didn't write misinformation. Could you please submit my reasoned and supported statement to an unbiased longterm editor? ED3202 (talk) 07:11, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I won't finance Wikipedia anymore if it knowingly publishes fake news. Farewell. ED3202 (talk) 18:57, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'd gladly save my time if your "longterm editors" didn't write misinformation. Could you please submit my reasoned and supported statement to an unbiased longterm editor? ED3202 (talk) 07:11, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi ED3202! This article (including its talk page) is under extended confirmed protection due to the fact that the article's topic has been designated as contentious (see this page for more information). This designation means that certain restrictions are placed upon all articles in this topic area. One such restriction is that the article receives extended confirmed protection, meaning that users without an account that's at least 30 days old and with at least 500 edits made will be unable to edit them. This can apply to talk pages in cases where they become a frequent target of disruptive editing or battleground conduct. I see that you've unfortunately decided to retire your account after this message, and it appears that contributing to Wikipedia isn't for you. That's totally fine and I understand; the time, effort, skills, and work that Wikipedia needs from its contributors isn't a fit for everybody. I would encourage you to make sure that your talk page discussion is reasonable, and any content in dispute is referenced by a reliable source and is free of bias or commentary. Our mission is to present information that references state are facts and nothing more. Add commentary, bias, or any non-neutral points of view is inappropriate on an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not a blog, nor is it a publisher of original thought. Nonetheless I wish you well and good luck with your future endeavors. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:28, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

- I wasn't aware of such a rule either. It's likely a basic eligibility requirement so that access is given to those who will actually use it. Again, like Tamzin said above, Samwalton9 (WMF) is a very reasonable user who cares about compliance with the spirit of such rules and guidelines, not just the black-and-white wording of such. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:45, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Thesnowprincess (19:31, 25 November 2023)
Hello Oshwah, thanks so much! I would love to occasionally contribute on AI/technology/mathematics topics on Wikipedia. I just submitted my first draft. May I ask if there are some "best practice" articles that are perfect for getting some inspiration for good quality content? Also, are preferences for different new articles measured? I would like to contribute with topics that are important and people search for them a lot.
Thanks a lot! --Thesnowprincess (talk) 19:31, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Thesnowprincess! Thanks for the message, and welcome to Wikipedia! There are great guideline pages that will help you, such as my first article. If you click the link and take a look at the purple list of links on the right side ("Article Creation"), those links are all to great guides that will help you. If all you'd like to have is a good example of an article that's within the area of the one you're creating, I would just search for a well-known article that's within that area. For example: If I'm trying to create an article about a computer company, I'd perhaps search and pull up the Wikipedia article on Microsoft. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to help! :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:01, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Pikkikhan (19:45, 27 November 2023)
Can I update Celebrities photo which is copyright free? --Pikkikhan (talk) 19:45, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Pikkikhan, and thanks for the message. I highly recommend that you verify for 100% sure that the image you are hoping to replace the current image on a biography of a living person does not have any copyright issues. If you've done so and you're sure that it doesn't, I recommend that you start a discussion on the article's talk page. Provide a wikilink to the image, and ask for input and thoughts from others. I know that biographies tend to vary differently with what image of them is shown on the article. One example is with non-living humans. We tend to show a picture of them in their younger adult years, not just the newest image we have of what they looked like at age 87. :-) Please let me know if I can help you with anything else. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:48, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi there,
I submitted edits to this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Nandita_Dinesh) yesterday but am realizing that the chances of it getting approved are quite minimal (given that I am the subject of the article).
Would you recommend deleting it? And if so, would you be able to guide me on how to do that?
Thanks in advance! --Nanditadinesh (talk) 21:14, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Nanditadinesh! Thanks for the message. I can delete the draft page for you if you wish; just let me know by responding here and confirming you would like me to do so. Do note that if you just want it to be deleted at some point in time instead of right now, all you need to do is no longer make edits to it. When a draft or AFC submission is abandoned (no edits in six months), it becomes eligible for speedy deletion under G13 - so it would eventually just disappear anyway at some point. :-) Let me know what you'd like me to do. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:08, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

I'm glad that you are trying to improve Wikipedia:Guidance for younger editors for young editors, but I think the added English is too difficult for young readers. Ca talk to me! 14:58, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

- Ca - Thanks for the reply. I reviewed the information I added, and I can see where the word "decipher" could be difficult to understand, but I don't see anything else that I've added in order to improve this page would cause young viewers to be over-encumbered by the words I used. If anything, I added more information and details that are absolutely crucial for younger viewers to understand. If you have specific information and can point to exactly what you're talking about, that will be helpful to me. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:30, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
Editing the WP:Vital articles project
Hi Oshwah, hope you are doing well. I am an active editor of the vital articles project here on Wikipedia. The main reason I am reaching out to you is because I am editing this page which are the level 5 articles for the history section. When you look at the last three sections of 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, I would like to change them so that Late modern covers events before 1945 and Contemporary covers events after 1945. I have tried making the changes before manually, but my edits got reverted because the list didn't come out right. I asked for help on the vital articles talk page, but I didn't get a lot of comments there. It is frustrating because I would've thought that other editors would build off my edits to make it better and instead reverted my edits. I have been active on this project for a long time now, but if you look through the talk page and archives of WT:VA, WT:VA4, and WT:VA5, it seems like a lot of editors have pointed out issues with my editing. I want them to know that I am a good faith editor and I do not intend to vandalize the list. I have made productive edits to the list before, but I feel like I am frustrating a lot of the editors there. I am hoping that I could ask for your guidance on what I can do to improve the history list there and not frustrate any editors there. I look forward to your response. - Hi Interstellarity! I know you well, and I know that you're absolutely a good faith editor to these lists - you don't have to convince me. :-D If your changes get reverted and if those editors who reverted you don't respond directly to your request for a discussion on the talk page (I assume that you pinged them in the discussion), then it doesn't exactly give them much of a leg to stand on, does it? ;-) Just do what you're doing; make sure that the changes you make to these list pages will result in a properly-formatted list and I don't think users are going to throw a fit. Is there anything I can do to help with this directly? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:06, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- I’m looking for a good tool that can help me with editing the history list such as AutoWikiBrowser that can help me with rearranging the items. Do you have any recommendations for that? Interstellarity (talk) 00:59, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- Interstellarity - Not on the top of my head, but if you'd like, I could reach out to some people and see if there is... Let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:56, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sure, that would help. Interstellarity (talk) 10:30, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- No promises; I'll see who I can helicopter and parachute into this discussion to answer your question. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:46, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from CoolWikip (01:17, 6 December 2023)
Thanks! I'm wondering how I could combat bias in articles involving controversial issues. --CoolWikip (talk) 01:17, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi CoolWikip! Have you read through this page? It will provide you with all of the help you're looking for in order to write content that reflects a neutral point of view. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:39, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

This may sound stupid...
...but any reason why block summaries tend to use templates such as checkuserblock-account, or hidden comments, even though the block summary isn't rendering them in wikitext? Is there an interface that allows them to work as though they were in wikitext? LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 08:37, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- LilianaUwU - No, that's actually a great question! For a long time, I didn't understand this either. The templates like these originally were added to the block summary to show others exactly what block notification was left on the user's talk page when the block was applied. Since then... it's kind of... changed... "evolved"? It's more-so a tagging thing these days, such as with CheckUser Block or Oversight Block. In many (if not most) cases, the template for a CU blocking isn't actually left on the user's talk page. It's just to tell other admins that the task is a CU action. So... if you want to put it down as "it used to be because of this, but it's become that and just stuck around as a thing because scripts and templates", I'd say that you're right! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:45, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Happy Holidays!
Hello Oshwah: Enjoy the holiday season and winter solstice if it's occurring in your area of the world, and thanks for your work to maintain, improve and expand Wikipedia. Cheers, Patient Zerotalk 05:48, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Question from Emendationum (22:40, 8 December 2023)
Hi Oshwah, my Wiki pages no longer show the "edit" tab, I can only see "edit source" which is not WYSIWYG. Must I learn "edit source"? Also I don't know how to copy & paste a COI template, the instructions seem to be in "edit source". (I'm not paid by the company whose sites I am trying to edit, but I am its unpaid Chairman). Thanks very much. --Emendationum (talk) 22:40, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Question from Jfhfuenwks (12:14, 12 December 2023)
Hi Sir/mdm,
I created this account because I realised my IP address had been leaked via the edits which I tried to change. Is there any possible way that you could help me privatise my name, or perhaps remove the edits at least? Thank you. --Jfhfuenwks (talk) 12:14, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Jfhfuenwks Try emailing the oversight team, see Wikipedia:Oversight. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:03, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for that! I have done so already, and am glad that they replied to me very quickly, helping me suppress my IP address, and also keeping the edit. Jfhfuenwks (talk) 13:14, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
