A war referendum is a proposed type of referendum in which citizens would decide whether a nation should go to war. No such referendum has ever taken place. The earliest idea of a war referendum came from the Marquis de Condorcet in 1793 and Immanuel Kant in 1795.[1]

In Georgia in September 2022, a member of parliament in the governing Georgian Dream party proposed referendum for war with Russia. The purpose of the war would be to retake the lost territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the north of the Georgia and open an additional front in the wider conflict with Russia.[2]
