FC Nacka Iliria is a Swedish football club located in the Stockholm suburb of Skärholmen.[1] The club was founded under the name FC Iliria Stockholm by Swedish-Albanians and held the name until 2019 when the club merged with Nacka FC and became FC Nacka Iliria.[2]

Background

Since their foundation in 2014, FC Nacka Iliria has participated mainly in the lower divisions of the Swedish football league system. The club was formed under the name FC Iliria Stockholm and has achieved a very fast-paced climbing in the Swedish Football ranks achieving promotion four times within five years. In November 2019 the club decided to merge with Nacka FC, a youth club outside of Stockholm thus changing its name to FC Nacka Iliria and changing the emblem to a black and white one consisting of the letters NFC standing for Nacka FC and the helmet of Skenderbeg, the Albanian medieval hero. The team managed to get promoted from division 5 as newcomers in 2019 despite being named as a potential jumbo by betting companies. During the first year in division 4, the club managed once again to get promoted at once after having secured promotion by winning the playoff group in 2020.

FC Nacka Iliria will play in the third division of Sweden, Division 3 Södra Svealand in 2022 and will continue to be coached by the Swedish Manager Eldin Kozica. Except for their record paced climbing in the Swedish divisions the club is also known as one of the most popular clubs in the lower leagues of Stockholm with an attendance reaching over 550 persons and thus being more viewed than many clubs in Division 1. The club's official fan group is known as Shqiponjat (The Eagles) which is also the nicknames the club goes under unofficially. [3]
