  • Comment: A production manager is not usually considered to be a notable role as it is "just" a member of the crew. You will need more / better citation to demonstrate notability MarcGarver (talk) 21:28, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Fathimath Maisha Adam (born 9 April 1989), commonly known as Thaathi Adam is a Maldivian actress, television host, former model and visual communications professional.[2] She earned her undergraduate degree in Visual Communication Design from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, Pakistan.[2] Before transitioning to acting, she appeared in two music videos in 2009.[2]

Adam made her acting debut in 2021 as a domestically abused wife in the third segment of the anthology web series Mazloom, followed by the horror anthology series Biruveri Vaahaka (2022) and Fandu (2023).[3][4] Her feature film debut came in 2023 with Kazmik International’s dark comedy film Free Delivery (2023).[5] Apart from acting, she has contributed to the Maldivian film industry as a production manager on multiple projects, including Bavathi (2019), Nina (2023) and web series Dharaka (2022).[6][7]

Early life

[edit]

Adam was born on 9 April 1989 in Malé, Maldives.[2] During her childhood, she developed a strong interest in Bollywood films, which played a significant role in shaping her passion for the film industry.[2] Constant exposure to Bollywood movies and songs inspired her love for cinema.[2] She was also inspired by Maldivian actress Waleedha Waleed, whose performances in acting and dance motivated Adam to pursue a career in acting.[2] She completed her undergraduate degree in Visual Communication Design from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, Pakistan.[2]

Career

[edit]

Before beginning her acting career, Adam appeared in two music videos in 2009.[2] She later worked behind the scenes in film production, primarily as part of director Ilyas Waheed’s team.[2] She was involved in the production of films including the critically acclaimed psychological thriller Bavathi (2019).[8]

Adam made her acting debut in 2021 in Ilyas Waheed's anthology web series Mazloom, portraying a domestically abused wife caring for her paralyzed husband.[9] Starring opposite Ravee Farooq, the segment, along with her performance received positive reviews from critics.[3] Ahmed Rasheed of MuniAvas praised her portrayal, highlighting her ability to convey a range of emotions, from a suffering victim to a dominant woman.[3]

The following year, Adam collaborated again with Ilyas Waheed in his horror thriller anthology web series Biruveri Vaahaka, where she played Samiya, a dominant wife.[4] The series received critical acclaim for its writing, direction, performances, and visual storytelling, particularly for its effective integration of horror folklore into an engaging narrative.[10]

In 2023, Adam starred in her first feature film, Free Delivery , a dark comedy directed by Ilyas Waheed.[11] The film follows three restaurant employees who become entangled in a murder case while making a food delivery.[12] Both the film and her performance received positive reviews from critics.[5] Aminath Luba of The Press identified her performance as a standout aspect of the film, writing that "despite being a debutant, Adam delivered a solid performance worthy of commendation".[13][14] That same year, she appeared in Mohamed Shifuan’s web series Fandu, playing the role of Shabana, a domestically abused wife who redirects her frustrations onto her husband’s niece.[15]

In 2024, Adam appeared in two films. Her first release was Ilyas Waheed's horror film Kanbalhi, which follows a small family whose lives unravel after moving into a sinister house in search of a fresh start.[16] She then collaborated with director Mohamed Niyaz for Lasviyas (2024), starring alongside an ensemble cast including Mariyam Zoya Hassan, Ahmed Easa, Washiya Mohamed, Ahmed Ifnaz Firag and Ahmed Asim.[17] The film marked Niyaz’s second directorial venture following his critically and commercially successful debut Dheriyaa (1994).[18]
