He began his musical career as a tenor with the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries in the early 1980s. He sang at some of Swaggart's most popular crusades, such as the one in Cape Town, South Africa (1983) and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1987).[3][4]

During his career in the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, he sang in dozens of Jimmy Swaggart Crusades, performing in South Africa, Argentina and other countries all over the world.[10] He recorded over 15 studio albums during his solo career.[11] In the late 80's he also preached for Jimmy Swaggart Ministries during Jimmy Swaggart Bible College events.[12][13] In the mid 2000's Starnes co-founded Timothy's Gift, a bible-based project to help prisoners all over the United States.[14][15][16]
He graduated in May of 2008 from Belmont University with a B.S. degree in Liberal Studies.[11]
In Atlanta Starnes has worked as a real estate agent since 2010.[17]
