My personal preference would be to reserve stylized diagrams for where they add the most value (see for example Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets, where the diagram clarifies a complex track layout) and just have prose/images for the Franklin Line articles. Right now, they awkwardly hang below the infobox; even if placed fully inline like an image, they would occupy space that could be used for a photograph. However, I want to hear your thoughts, and I may well be convinced otherwise. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 06:20, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

:Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I appreciate the feedback and I agree with you. I think the layouts should be used on more complex stations like Back Bay and Park St, but they don't add much to the other pages. I thought I would add them since several other train station pages (not MBTA) have layouts, but none of the MBTA ones did. I can remove them if you would like me to. ::Hello again! As with the Franklin Line articles, I'm not convinced that most MBTA subway stations really need templates. There was a discussion a long time back that actually had consensus for removing the existing station layout tables for most simple MBTA stations. On the Green Line, only Boylston, Park Street, GC, Lechmere, Kenmore, and maybe BC - half of which you've already done - are likely to add any real illustrative value to the articles. (Reservoir and Riverside carhouses are much too complex for a template; I previously made a map that illustrates Riverside.) The Orange and Blue lines mostly have very simple station layouts. I do think there are several places that your template-creating efforts could be very valuable, if you're interested. JFK/UMass is one - the multiple Red Line platforms, Columbia Junction, and the commuter rail flyover make it a very complicated situation indeed, and one that isn't easy to explain in prose. Framingham, Providence, Greenbush, Kingston/Route 3, Ruggles, and Forest Hills all have intricate layouts that your template skills would be great for. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 05:34, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

:::Thanks for the feedback - and I agree. I wont add any more layouts for the simple stations. But I will make some for the stations you mentioned, I am working on the Framingham one right now.

Moved Template;Providence station to Template:Providence station as it appeared to be a typo. Ping if I am wrong. Classicwiki (talk) (ping me) 04:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

GLX ref to MESA
Back in August, you helpfully added station listings to the Green Line Extension article, diff: . You included short citations to a reference named "MESA" but the full reference was not included, causing a cite error. Could you correct this oversight?--agr (talk) 16:40, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Fixed. I took that station listing template from the Second Avenue Subway and edited it for the GLX, but I must've forgotten to remove "MESA". My bad. Anthonyt31201 (talk) 14:18, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Why are you entitled to remove someones name from a page just because you say so? You’re not the owner of Shoreline Mafia to be saying who is or who is not from the group. Nomination of Hyde Square (MBTA station) for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Hyde Square (MBTA station) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hyde Square (MBTA station) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:08, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hyde Square

[edit]

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the formal planning process for transit projects, so forgive me if I'm repeating what you already know. Transit extension projects only really become 'official' when they are added to the MPO projects list / CIP, which qualifies them to seek state and federal funding, and then begin active planning with the environmental assessment. Other T projects discussed on Wikipedia - even those like South Coast Rail which is still in planning hell - have already made it past these steps. The Go Boston 2030 document is really just a wishlist; my understanding is that it doesn't actually constitute a legal advancement of the project. It's the equivalent of me telling my Facebook friends that I want to get a car, versus actually doing the research and seeking a loan.

For this reason, I don't believe the Rozzie and Hyde Square extensions should be added to the templates just yet - to do so would be misleading. As much as I would like to see them happen, there is no guarantee that they will ever even enter planning, much less actually be built. (For that reason, we must not describe them as certainties when talking about them in articles.) There are dozens of ideas on the 2030 wish-list; some of them like BRT on Washington Street in Brighton are patently ridiculous. We should wait until they actually become official projects before including them; there's plenty of time. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:04, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for updating me on what belongs on wikipedia - I am a new user and didn't know that unfunded proposals do not belong here. As there should not be a page on this, I still think it should exist on the "route map" section of green line articles as "proposed", to show that it is being considered. But, you are obviously the more experienced user here, so please correct me if I am wrong. Anthonyt31201

Station layout templates

[edit]

I really do appreciate the work you're doing with MBTA articles - and I don't want to make you feel like I'm picking on you - but I'm not sure whether station layout templates really add much for the Franklin Line articles. Most of the stations are fairly simple designs - one or two side platforms, with perhaps a track fence or nearby road. In general, that information can be more effectively communicated either by prose or by a photograph, which tend to be more intuitive to casual readers than a diagram, and also fit better within the article. Only Walpole has a lot of complexity, and even then I think an aerial photograph or geographic map, rather than stylized diagram, may be clearer. See for example what I've done with Readville.

Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 06:20, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535:
Thanks for sharing your thoughts - I appreciate the feedback and I agree with you. I think the layouts should be used on more complex stations like Back Bay and Park St, but they don't add much to the other pages. I thought I would add them since several other train station pages (not MBTA) have layouts, but none of the MBTA ones did. I can remove them if you would like me to. Anthonyt31201 (talk) 03:25, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! @Pi.1415926535:
Thanks for the feedback - and I agree. I wont add any more layouts for the simple stations. But I will make some for the stations you mentioned, I am working on the Framingham one right now.

GLX ref to MESA

[edit]

Back in August, you helpfully added station listings to the Green Line Extension article, diff: [1]. You included short citations to a reference named "MESA" but the full reference was not included, causing a cite error. Could you correct this oversight?--agr (talk) 16:40, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I took that station listing template from the Second Avenue Subway and edited it for the GLX, but I must've forgotten to remove "MESA". My bad. Anthonyt31201 (talk) 14:18, 29 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Removing Information

[edit]

Why are you entitled to remove someones name from a page just because you say so? You’re not the owner of Shoreline Mafia to be saying who is or who is not from the group. Besides that, no one in the group know you. This is the main reason no one cares about Wikipedia and everyone can edit it is supposed to public for everyone. 70.45.0.56 (talk) 18:26, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
