Isabella was the eldest daughter of Sancho IV of Castile and María de Molina.
Isabella was born in [[Toro, Spain|Toro]], the eldest daughter of King [[Sancho IV of Castile]]{{sfn|Bent|2016|p=108}} and [[María de Molina]]. As On 1 December 1291, Isabella married King James II of Aragon in the city of [[Soria]]. The bride was only eight years old and the groom twenty-four. The marriage was never consummated.
Her paternal grandparents were Alfonso X of Castile and Violant of Aragon. Her maternal grandparents were Alfonso of Molina and Mayor Alonso de Meneses.
Alfonso X was a son of Ferdinand III of Castile and Beatriz of Swabia. Alfonso of Molina was a son of Alfonso IX of León and Berenguela of Castile.
Ferdinand III was another son of Alfonso IX and Berenguela of Castile. Beatriz was a daughter of Philip of Swabia and Iren Angelina.


Sancho IV died on 25 April 1295. James chose to change his alliances and take advantage of the turmoil inside Castile. He had their wedding annulled and proceeded to marry [[Blanche of Anjou]].

Isabella of Castile (1283–1328) was the Queen of Aragon as the first wife of King James II and Duchess of Brittany as the second wife of Duke John III.[1]

Isabella was born in Toro, the eldest daughter of King Sancho IV of Castile[2] and María de Molina. As On 1 December 1291, Isabella married King James II of Aragon in the city of Soria. The bride was only eight years old and the groom twenty-four. The marriage was never consummated.

Sancho IV died on 25 April 1295. James chose to change his alliances and take advantage of the turmoil inside Castile. He had their wedding annulled and proceeded to marry Blanche of Anjou.
