My thinking is since it isn't currently covering Roanoke, we should hold off on adding the Roanoke market template there. As for WXCF, they do put a fairly listenable (service grade) signal into northern parts of Roanoke, so having that one there kinda works. - [[User:Neutralhomer|< |

::Most of what I go by is the coverage maps on Radio-Locator and the FCC. I think WXCF's tower is up on a hill in northern Alleghany County, so that probably helps. I guess for the time being (til we can figure out if it really does make it that far) we can remove WXCF from the Roanoke template. |

Hey Trip, I created a page for WKDE-FM. Since I guess you can hear the station, can you make sure what I have there is accurate. Sometimes websites are the most accurate. Also, please add any information that I don't have on there. Many thanks. Take Care and Merry Christmas....[[User:Neutralhomer|< |

Calling it the "Roanoke Rapids/Norlina" is good, but not alot of people know where Norlina is. To be honest, even I had to look it up. How would you feel calling it the "Roanoke Rapids/Emporia" market? You wouldn't have to change the name of the actual template, just the header. Take Care and Merry Christmas....[[User:Neutralhomer|< |

You mentioned your TV market list at http://www.rabbitears.info at [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations#List of television stations in North America by media market]], and that we are welcome to use the list. I was wondering, first of all, would you be willing to explicitly put your list either in the public domain or under a [[GFDL]] license, so we can be certain it can be included in Wikipedia? Also, would you be willing to publish the source code for the program you use to generate the list and maps, preferably under an open source license? I had some ideas for tweaking the code to generate a better list that we could use; for example, I think it would be useful to generate a list that excludes markets that don't have at least one major network affiliate; this would, for example keep [[Glendive, Montana]] (with its CBS and NBC affiliate [[KXGN-TV]]) but eliminate [[Bishop, California]] (with only independent station [[KBBC-TV]]; Bishop gets its major network affiliates from [[Los Angeles]]). :I'll have to study the GFDL and get back to you on it, but I could do that if it's a standard open-source license. With regard to the code, I'll have to talk to my programmer. He wrote it, not me, and he ran the program on his own machine because it took at least 6 hours to process all the data and allocate stations to markets. Basically, things have been put up as they are now and the rest of the work will be done by hand, so I don't think the code will help you any. |

The reason I split the WZZI/WZZU article was essentially because they are two different stations with two different histories. The reason I didn't include the WZZU history was it was wrong. It said that WZZU started in 1990, when in fact it started in 1970. Not knowing enough about that station's history to decide what stayed and what should go in the history, I deleted it all. If someone wants to take another crack at it, they are more than welcome. Hope that answers your questions :) Happy Easter...<small style="border:1px solid #990000;padding:1px;">[[User:Neutralhomer|< |

I will post this here cause the WT:TVS section is getting kinda confusing. I think the cleanup with your information is a good idea and you should continue on with it. Sometimes WT:TVS posts (like other posts) just stall out. I would just go ahead and add them. People have had enough time to comment one way or the other. - <small style="border:1px solid #990000;padding:1px;">[[User:Neutralhomer|< |

:::No problem on the restoring of the Estella TV edit. It shouldn't have been deleted in the first place. As for the launch, we don't get it in my neck of the woods (near DC) so I can't check it out to tell ya. I would keep watching some of the TV/Radio boards for more information. I am not sure if TitanTV is the best source, but it will do. To source it use <nowiki><ref>[INSERT LINK HERE TITLE OF ARTICLE]</ref></nowiki>. There is a more technical reference link, but the "quick and dirty" one is the one above. If you have any problems, please feel free to message me on my talk page. - <small style="white-space:nowrap;border:1px solid #900;padding:1px;">[[User:Neutralhomer|<span style="color:#900;background-color:White;">NeutralHomer</span>]] • [[User talk:Neutralhomer|<span style="color:Black;background-color:White;">Talk</span>]] • 23:40, 3 September 2009 (UTC)</small> |

:I would see no problem with that. ::Just a quick note...when you add references to a page at the bottom use {{tlu|reflist}} instead of <nowiki><references></nowiki>. I still think it is a good system and better than having a swath of templates removed per Nielsen's OTRS ticket again. Don't leave, just take a Wikibreak, come back with fresh eyes and find another side of Wikipedia to edit on. There will be people like Betacommand who will do anything to start trouble, don't let them get to you. I saw your reply on AN/I. I wanted to come here and start something though, because the AN/I discussion is bound to be archived soon, and there's simply too much traffic there to have a decent conversation. |

Anyway, take your time, get some references together, and ping me with what you can gather up, and I'll start an article and develop it as best I can. I can't guarantee that it'll survive AFD or anything (damn deletionists are a pain in the you know what), but we can certainly try. There's no hurry, but I could use a fresh project to work on so I'll take this on (I remember wanting this sort of data a while ago, and I'm almost positive that I used your data, so this is the least I can do to return the favor).<br/>— [[User:Ohms law|<span style="text-shadow:grey 0.3em 0.3em 0.1em; class=texhtml"><i>V</i> = <i>I</i> * <i>R</i></span>]] ([[User talk:Ohms law|talk to Ω]]) 23:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC) |

I uploaded the logo here: [[:File:RabbitEarsLogo.gif]], but I need info on the licensing for it. You can add it yourself, but I can do it if you need help (I hate dealing with images since their 10x worse then dealing with articles when it comes to deletion, but I at least know how to deal with Wikitext). You may end up needing to file an OTRS ticket about it, but I'll have to look into that.<br/>— [[User:Ohms law|<span style="text-shadow:grey 0.3em 0.3em 0.1em; class=texhtml"><i>V</i> = <i>I</i> * <i>R</i></span>]] ([[User talk:Ohms law|talk to Ω]]) 18:23, 16 September 2009 (UTC) |

== READS ranks license == |
|||
You'll need to update the [http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=marketlist READS page] on your site with (preferably) a [[Creative Commons]] license, since that's the most comparable that I know of with your stated usage restrictions. You can of course choose any license that you like, but you must add some sort of license info to the copyright notice on the bottom of the READS page for it to be available for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia uses [[Wikipedia:Text of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License|CC-BY-SA 3.0]] and [[Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License]], so the standard is to require a compatible license. I don't really know the actual legal ramifications of licensing (and, quite honestly, I'm ideologically opposed to the existence of copyright in it's current form anyway), so I highly recommend speaking to someone with real legal knowledge.<br/>— [[User:Ohms law|<span style="text-shadow:grey 0.3em 0.3em 0.1em; class=texhtml"><i>V</i> = <i>I</i> * <i>R</i></span>]] ([[User talk:Ohms law|talk to Ω]]) 20:20, 16 September 2009 (UTC) |

When an anonymous IP is vandalizing, the process is to give them, on each of several edits, as they happen, a warning to their page. The process is can be somewhat complicated to get effective results.[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Piano_non_troppo#How_to_deal_with_an_editor_who_repeatedly_won.27t_respond_.28blocking.29]. == WJJS == |

In a recent edit summary you provided for [[WJJS]], you specified that FCC records clearly indicate that WBRW and WJJS traded frequencies in 1998. I cannot find that information. Please cite the source that indicates that. the callsign history indicates that WRDJ remained on the 104.9 frequency from December 15, 1993 to February 21, 2001. So you are wrong. Please remember that the information for WJJS should ONLY indicate what has been broadcasting on the 104.9 and 102.7 frequencies. Sorry about the confusion. According to the chief engineer at my TV station, broadcast stations do not broadcast on the original digital allocations anymore. Our digital channel used to be on DT Channel 35.. it is now on DT Channel 9, which is our old analog channel. The numbers that you have after the call letters are not used anymore, and are therefore confusing. You cannot find the stations using those channel numbers, with or without a digital encoder. Under the Q & A for DTV antennas, I found this. It explains how stations have reverted back to their old analog VHF channels, but digital this time: |
|||
Q: Getting VHF stations are a problem for me. I get everything else fine. |
|||
A: Many stations that have reverted to VHF assignments have dramatically cut their transmitter power, in some cases by over 90%! Some stations mistakenly thought they could save money by cutting their power while reaching the same number of viewers. In other cases the FCC imposed reduced power limits to stations that reverted to their old VHF assignments in order to prevent interference with adjacent markets. There has been a misperception among some station owners that while dramatically lowering DTV transmitter power, they could serve the same coverage area as analog, and this has turned out to be incorrect. Many stations who have reverted back to VHF are now finding themselves with significantly reduced coverage areas and fewer viewers after switching to VHF. |

You're right on WTVC.. WATE-TV and WVLT-TV, Knoxville also switched to their digital UHF channels, because their coverage areas actually increased on the digital UHF channel.. I get them in Chattanooga on the hill I live on. I also get WBXX, digital channel 50, too.. WSMV stayed on its digital channel 10 in Nashville, too. For some reason WRCB did not change from digital channel 13 (I believe it was a financial decision), and it did come back to haunt them, as their overall coverage area shrank tremendously, especially in the northern fringes, Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs, McMinn (folks not on cable or satellite were forced to switch to WBIR-TV for NBC). WBIR is changing to digital channel 10, and also in Chattooga, Gordon, Fannin (actually, they are in the Atlanta DMA anyway, but are closer to Chattanooga--off-air folks there had to switch to WXIA-TV for NBC). Luckily for WRCB, most everybody is on cable or satellite. |
|||
As long as PSIP converts the UHF digital signal to a virtual channel, which converter boxes, cable and satellite companies read, stations can stay on their UHF channels, but it's more economical to switch back. |
|||
Don't worry about the disposition LOL!! That's what I hate about "writing" something. It never conveys the actual emotion and tone of a person's voice. Hope the homework assignments work out. I also used to have a spectrum analyzer, but a friend of mine in Knoxville for it in a television museum he's building. I have a First Phone license, too, and did a transmitter shift at WKPT-TV and WJHL-TV in the Tri-Cities on Holston Mountain back in the 70's (I helped put WKPT-TV on the air). I'm in the process of upgrading the license to digital.[[User:Csneed|Csneed]] ([[User talk:Csneed#top|talk]]) 16:43, 30 July 2010 (UTC) |

WIQO
[edit]My thinking is since it isn't currently covering Roanoke, we should hold off on adding the Roanoke market template there. As for WXCF, they do put a fairly listenable (service grade) signal into northern parts of Roanoke, so having that one there kinda works. - NeutralHomer T:C 18:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, by the way, welcome to Wikipedia! :) - NeutralHomer T:C 18:06, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- Most of what I go by is the coverage maps on Radio-Locator and the FCC. I think WXCF's tower is up on a hill in northern Alleghany County, so that probably helps. I guess for the time being (til we can figure out if it really does make it that far) we can remove WXCF from the Roanoke template.
- Also, to sign your name, add ~~~~ at the end of your post. It will sign your name and add a date stamp automatically. The "~" is right next to the "1" key. Take Care....NeutralHomer T:C 11:28, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Roanoke Rapids Template
[edit]Calling it the "Roanoke Rapids/Norlina" is good, but not alot of people know where Norlina is. To be honest, even I had to look it up. How would you feel calling it the "Roanoke Rapids/Emporia" market? You wouldn't have to change the name of the actual template, just the header. [edit]Hey. I need you help with the following tv stations in Richmond, Va. The stations are WFLV-LP, WFMA-LP and WKYV-LP. Thanks. Time1 13:10, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Keysville/Farmville Stations 2
[edit]Thanks for writing me back. I would like for you to do is if you know anybody that knows the history of both WKYV-LP & WFMA-LP to send you the information or tell them to post it here on Wikipedia. I went on the FCC website and it states that WFMA-LP license in still active but the station is currently silent. It was an affiliate of an television network before going black. WFLV-LP license is currently gone from the FCC database but I believed it was on the air before shutting down but I don't the know the history behind it 16:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

TV market list
[edit]You mentioned your TV market list at http://www.rabbitears.info at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations#List of television stations in North America by media market, and that we are welcome to use the list. I was wondering, first of all, would you be willing to explicitly put your list either in the public domain or under a GFDL license, so we can be certain it can be included in Wikipedia? Also, would you be willing to publish the source code for the program you use to generate the list and maps, preferably under an open source license? I had some ideas for tweaking the code to generate a better list that we could use; for example, I think it would be useful to generate a list that excludes markets that don't have at least one major network affiliate; this would, for example keep Glendive, Montana (with its CBS and NBC affiliate KXGN-TV) but eliminate Bishop, California (with only independent station KBBC-TV; Bishop gets its major network affiliates from Los Angeles). DHowell (talk) 10:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would be willing to help add the information to the templates once all the GFDL information was completed. - NeutralHomer • Talk • October 19, 2008 @ 12:13
- I'll have to study the GFDL and get back to you on it, but I could do that if it's a standard open-source license.
- As for the market ideas, I'm leaving those as-is. I split them off to avoid looking like Nielsen marekts, because while Bishop receives its network service from LA, that's a direct result of the Nielsen DMA system. If some digital translators pop up in Bishop carrying LA stations, then Bishop will have a set of affiliates just like Logan UT and other Utah markets do. I hand-defined the markets and the program chose the cities to be in them based on the markets I chose.
- I'd like some help in figuring out cities that are improperly located. I may have time to work on my site overall, but I don't have time to pick through every market and check every city. For example, I had to relocate Danville from the Greensboro market into Roanoke, since their only TV station clearly covers Roanoke/Lynchburg and not Greensboro. Can I get some assurances of help straightening the market locations out if I GFDL or put it into the public domain?
- Also, I was thinking about naming my site's ranking system as the RabbitEars Area Definition System (READS). Any opinions on that?
- Okay, I've glanced at the GFDL page and my concern is where it says "all derivative works must be under the same license." Would that apply to the listings on my website? TripEricson (talk) 17:53, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
I've revised this text a wee bit to reflect that ATSC standards do say how to handle PSIP virtual channel numbering for this odd case. Basically, you find the station which took the base channel number you otherwise would have wanted to use, track them down to the ends of the Earth and steal their new physical channel numbering info when they're not looking so that you can use that number as the base for your new PSIP virtual digital subchannels. This is the first actual case in which I've seen this used, but it's in the spec, buried in one of the appendices. --66.102.80.212 (talk) 07:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Re: WZZU
[edit]The reason I split the WZZI/WZZU article was essentially because they are two different stations with two different histories. Hope that answers your questions :) Happy Easter...NeutralHomer • Talk • April 12, 2009 @ 17:15

RE: Rankings of Network Affiliates
[edit]I will post this here cause the WT:TVS section is getting kinda confusing. I think the cleanup with your information is a good idea and you should continue on with it. Sometimes WT:TVS posts (like other posts) just stall out. I would just go ahead and add them. People have had enough time to comment one way or the other. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 23:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Since there aren't many affiliates of Estrella TV and they seem to be in non ranked areas, I would leave that one alone. If you want to, you can add the rankings to that one, but I wouldn't. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:03, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Let me know what pages you are working on and I will watchlist them and make sure the information isn't being deleted. There should be no reason it is being deleted in the first place. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- No problem on the restoring of the Estella TV edit. It shouldn't have been deleted in the first place. As for the launch, we don't get it in my neck of the woods (near DC) so I can't check it out to tell ya. I would keep watching some of the TV/Radio boards for more information. They are normally on the money with launches. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 05:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- You are correct. According to this, the network is to launch in "Mid-August". I would update the Estella TV page with this information. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 06:12, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: WAHU-LD citation
[edit]I am not sure if TitanTV is the best source, but it will do. To source it use <ref>[INSERT LINK HERE TITLE OF ARTICLE]</ref>. There is a more technical reference link, but the "quick and dirty" one is the one above. If you have any problems, please feel free to message me on my talk page. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 23:40, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would see no problem with that. If you can get a screenshot of the TitanTV schedule and post it on RabbitEars, then link it that would do quite nicely :) - NeutralHomer • Talk • 17:50, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- Just a quick note...when you add references to a page at the bottom use {{reflist}} instead of <references>. Using reflist makes the references smaller at the bottom of the page and if there are many of them it gives them more room. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 18:41, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Potential RabbitEars article
[edit]I saw your reply on AN/I.
There's no hurry, but I could use a fresh project to work on so I'll take this on (I remember wanting this sort of data a while ago, and I'm almost positive that I used your data, so this is the least I can do to return the favor).

RabbitEars logo
[edit]I uploaded the logo here: File:RabbitEarsLogo.gif, but I need info on the licensing for it. You can add it yourself, but I can do it if you need help (I hate dealing with images since their 10x worse then dealing with articles when it comes to deletion, but I at least know how to deal with Wikitext). You may end up needing to file an OTRS ticket about it, but I'll have to look into that.

READS ranks license
[edit]You'll need to update the READS page on your site with (preferably) a Creative Commons license, since that's the most comparable that I know of with your stated usage restrictions. You can of course choose any license that you like, but you must add some sort of license info to the copyright notice on the bottom of the READS page for it to be available for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia uses CC-BY-SA 3.0 and Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License, so the standard is to require a compatible license. I don't really know the actual legal ramifications of licensing (and, quite honestly, I'm ideologically opposed to the existence of copyright in it's current form anyway), so I highly recommend speaking to someone with real legal knowledge.

WVPT's translator in Monterey, VA
[edit]The FCC database doesn't come up with anything in Monterey, Virginia at all, digital or analog. I think they completely dropped that Monterey translator and I figure they did the same with the others as well. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:35, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Well I'll be damned, you are right. My apologizes, I didn't know they put the translators under the parent station. Would be helpful if they actually say that that application is for Monterey and not Staunton as it is listed. I learned something, thanks for clearing that up. Orphaned non-free image File:RabbitEarsLogo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:RabbitEarsLogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:02, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

WSLS-TV vandalism
[edit]When an anonymous IP is vandalizing, the process is to give them, on each of several edits, as they happen, a warning to their page. The process is can be somewhat complicated to get effective results.[1]. In this case, I will warn them. If they continue a few times, then you or I should go to [2]. WJJS
[edit]In a recent edit summary you provided for WJJS, you specified that FCC records clearly indicate that WBRW and WJJS traded frequencies in 1998. Thanks.-VarietyPerson (talk) 01:44, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Sorry about saying "you are wrong". I hope I didn't make you mad. Take care.-VarietyPerson (talk) 13:46, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Poor Mountain
[edit]Sorry about the confusion. It explains how stations have reverted back to their old analog VHF channels, but digital this time:
Q: Getting VHF stations are a problem for me. I get everything else fine.
Csneed (talk) 02:45, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
As long as PSIP converts the UHF digital signal to a virtual channel, which converter boxes, cable and satellite companies read, stations can stay on their UHF channels, but it's more economical to switch back.
I'm in the process of upgrading the license to digital.Csneed (talk) 16:43, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
