Sirio (disambiguation)

[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like Sirio (disambiguation) are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory

Hi there. As I state at the AFD page, I am rooting for you and for this article to be kept. It looks like you can be a great contributor in an area where there's a gap in English wikipedia editors. I would be thrilled if you'd be interested in working together to create a proper top-level article about official heritage registries in Italy, and either way I would like to provide help with infoboxes and categories and such that would be relevant (help like is provided at wp:HSITES for many other countries. --Doncram (talk) 22:30, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But please pay attention to my comments in the AFD about this article apparently being a translation to English of an Italian wikipedia article. In this case the Italian article was developed by you yourself, so there is not really any issue about giving proper attribution to the original author(s) of an article. But documenting that it is a translation and linking to the original article is still important for other reasons, such as for helping to ensure that the fix of some error in one is also done in the other. Or for identifying any pattern of problems.
Specifically, when you translate a page you must follow Help:Translation#License requirements, about the first edit summary and about a template for the Talk page. If you don't in the future, that will lead to trouble for you, which will make editing in the English wikipedia less enjoyable. I do hope you will contribute more, and that you will find your way to easily complying with the requirements. sincerely, --Doncram (talk) 06:43, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Doncram:! Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and support! And thank you for the resources you showed me. I should have just included the reference to the fact that it is a translation moments ago. As far as the registry, unfortunately I do not know whether one actually exists at national level, but I will do more research. On the other hand, I do know that we have Lombardia Beni Culturali in Lombardy, even though from some past research I could not fully understand what it means for a property to be listed there, and a Kunst und Kultur database for the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (example of a building: [1]), with information available both in German and Italian (German being co-official there). This last databse/registry is possibly more documented on Wikimedia projects, as a banner has even been created to be displayed in Wikimedia categories (see here: [2]). Like you, I deplore the apparent lack of a registry in Italy like those of France, Canada, the UK, the US and Switzerland (and many more), and would love to uncover more about it. With Italian being my mother tongue, I can definitely help you with that, I hope! sincerely, --Plumbago Capensis (talk) 07:43, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thanks. I browsed a bit in the Lombardy Cultural History pages (https://www.lombardiabeniculturali.it/ ) It seems not to be a heritage registry like the NRHP; there is no nomination and review and approval process apparent. It is more like librarians working separately or together to catalog things. https://www.lombardiabeniculturali.it/progetto/ seems to define the project.
It apparently indexes/lists 17,885 "records" about "Lombardy's architectural heritage: monumental complexes, public and religious buildings, rural buildings of historical interest, noble residences, fortified architectures, private residences, industrial archeology buildings." To be accessed through "Architectures" search screen. I am thinking that means there are that many photos or other documents, not that there are 17,885 buildings or monuments that anyone is identifying as being of special interest.
Or actually there may be 17,885 buildings or similar covered. But for example https://www.lombardiabeniculturali.it/architetture/schede/MI100-00726/ about one building, simply does not have enough information for an article. This is like a house identified in a preliminary survey of historic resources in an area, as is done by US states and counties etc. But only some of such items are deemed significant enough and get well enough documented by an extensive nomination document, to become listed on a registry.
I do hope there is some national level registry. I can't find it now, but there was one page explaining development of SIRBeC information system and how it relates to a national catalog system being developed. By the way, I nota that "Home ›Places of Culture›" lists 128 museums or similar institutions, most of which themselves could probably have Wikipedia articles. --Doncram (talk) 08:17, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncram: I'll give it a more proper look too. And have you seen the Sudtirolean (pseudo?) registry? Plumbago Capensis (talk) 09:21, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, I haven't found any South Tyrol(?) local registry. It's hard to get past promotional(?)-type pages like TOP HISTORIC SIGHTS IN SOUTH TYROL, ITALY. Although most or all of the places listed there do appear to be Wikipedia-notable:

  1. Trauttmansdorff Castle and Gardens
  2. Brixen Cathedral
  3. Bolzano Franciscan Friary
  4. Neustift Abbey
  5. Innichen Abbey
Reschensee with Graun Church tower and boat
  1. Church tower of Lake Resia [awkward wording, try Lake Resia and then look for a church...] [Hey that worked, check out this photo from the Reschensee article, it is the Graun Church's tower. Why is its base underwater?]
  2. Scena Castle
  3. South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology
  4. Sigmundskron Castle
  5. Tyrol Castle
  6. Hocheppan Castle
  7. Marienberg Abbey
  8. Trostburg Castle
  9. Haderburg Castle

A regional or even a city-specific or town-specific local registry can be helpful in developing articles. Such lower-than-national=level designations can have a special color and infobox and all that, as was done for Los Angeles, California's many Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (LAHCM)]-designated sites. All of which got listed in Wikipedia, and many got articles, while others are redlinks which probably could become separate articles. The LAHCM listing was accepted as a significant positive factor supporting wikipedia-notablity in any AFDs. And the list is a pretty good working list to guide article creations.

It would be great to find an Italian national or regional or local registry, and establish what type of info is generally available for each item (like how the NRHP has an extensive nomination/registration document for each). And built out a list of all the items, and have a bunch of redlinks immediately where they all are pretty much assured to be acceptable for having articles, if you like. Then make hay. --Doncram (talk) 02:52, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Followup: Sarfatti AFD closed "Keep", i guess mainly on the Lombardy historic places site being deemed the official registry, which i was not sure about.
Also, by the way, I have just tried the Wiki tool for aiding in translation (probably linked from wp:TRANSLATE) and found it to be very useful. One small thing it does is put in the correct edit summary I was speaking of, automatically. I tried first with translating an article from French wikipedia, which turned out to be pretty complicated for me. I did "publish" it, but to my userspace not to mainspace, see User:Doncram/Union Rempart, so that I can keep on working on it. The "publish" step created that edit summary. It seems u can open a translation and while it is incomplete it will just be kept in some space for draft tranlations, which you can return to easily. As you may be aware, the English wikipedia editors chose to turn OFF the auto-google translation step in the ideal process, because too many bad articles were being generated. The tool still seems very useful, though I was copy-pasting passages into a web translate tool one paragraph at a time, to get rough-translated text to start with. Working that way is fine. Hope this comment might be helpful. --Doncram (talk) 19:31, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

List of castles in South Tyrol, and wp:ITSACASTLE

[edit]

FYI List of castles in South Tyrol has appearance of being a good list from some source, and includes many redlinks which probably could get articles. It's funny, I was primary author of an essay wp:ITSACASTLE, which has been pretty widely cited in AFDs (although often by alternate names such as wp:ITSAMUSEUM) and has helped win many "Keep" decisions, until now few if any castles are nominated for deletion. The essay itself was nominated for deletion by detractor of me, and the AFD earned a very solid "Keep" decision. --Doncram (talk) 03:18, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hotel

[edit]

 :-) Fram (talk) 15:08, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Fram:. No, I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the old, historic name that appears on the balcony of the building in some sort of billboard sign. This picture features evidently new signs. Also, the "et" appears in the name of the hotel in the 1929 novel A Farewell To Arms by Hemingway, as well as in the names of other Italian hotels from the era: Grand Hotel et de Milan, Grand Hotel et des Palmes...--Plumbago Capensis (talk) 15:16, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then it certainly isn't the current name of the hotel, as evidenced by that newer sign and their website. Anyway, the older name is a redirect to the current one, so people looking for that will find it as well. Fram (talk) 15:18, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
