"Myth of Thieves Guild"?
[edit]The article refers to "The Myth of Thieves Guild". What is this? Is it a book or website, or is it just a nonexistent Wikipedia article? Googling "Myth of Thieves Guild" yields three hits, all of which copied from Wikipedia... SpectrumDT (talk) 20:36, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like it was a deleted original research page. It should probably be removed. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 06:41, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Historical?
[edit]The novel referred to has it's own wiki article http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rinconete_y_Cortadillo
It appears to be a work of satire - a picaresque novel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picaresque_novel
The 'Thieve's Guild' being analog of the ruling class - all the outer show of peity, respectability, even charity and ideals of justice, but robbing and killing all the same. Generally such fictional devices are used because the premise is absurd - noble-thieves.
On the issue of whether such an organisation was historical - it appears a fairly extraordinary claim. The phrase "Historians are still divided" is classic 'weasel words'. Doubtless there were criminal organisations in the 16th century, but it is very doubtful any were near the scale, and particularly the tenor, of the Guild depicted. Until a good citation can be offered I think it should be removed.91.125.30.45 (talk) 20:48, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Thieves World
[edit]This is seminal fantasy literature about this subject. It seems like it needs to be included in the list. Khallus Maximus (talk) 21:36, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
