The Military Engineer Services is a Government Organisation in Bangladesh which is responsible for Military Infrastructure Development, Maintain and preservation of there creation. As the pwd of Bangladesh serves the public, this organisation only serves the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Major General Iftekhar Anis is the current E in C.[1][2][3]

History
[edit]The first regular establishment of “Engineers” in India was formed in the Madras Army in 1748. On 23 March 1770 the Chief Engineer of Madras Engineers was in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. From 1776 to1818 Bengal Sappers and Miners existed in some form or the other in Bengal Army. On 19 February 1819 the Bengal Sappers and Miners consisting of six companies officially came into being. In 01 April 1862 the Bengal and Madras Engineers were amalgamated with the Royal Engineers of British Indian Army. The Royal Engineers were thereafter employed in the Department of Public Works or Railways or Survey. But from1851 the “Public Works Department” was under civil control and no separate organization was considered necessary for military works. After 1860 there was a boom in the construction of civil works. A large number of civil engineers were engaged and military department began to lose proper control over military works. By 1871 the situation was so unsatisfactory that “Special Military Works Branch” of the Public Works Department was given the responsibility of the major works, and ten years later the branch was placed under military control. In 1889 the “Military Works Department” took over all the military works in India. However, it was not until 1899 that this Military Works Department became entirely military in character and was officered by Royal Engineers. It was then named “Military Works Services” and so it remained till 1923 when it was renamed as “Military Engineer Services” which continues till this day. The senior Royal Engineer officer of MES in India was called the Director General of Military Works. In 1921, his title was changed to “Director of Works”. The engineering organization of the Army consisted of two main branches, viz, “Sappers and Miners” or Combat Troops and “The Military Engineer Services”. On 4 December 1923, the appointment of an Engineer in Chief as head of the Corps of Engineers was created to control both the branches.
After the independence of India and Pakistan the name changed to Military Engineer Services East Pakistan. But the headquarters of the organisation was in the West Pakistan. After the independence of Bangladesh the name currently changed to Military Engineer Services Bangladesh and it stared to serve the Bangladesh Armed Forces since 1975.
Maj Gen Fazlur Rahman Al Mamun is the first E in C of Military Engineer Services.
Zones
[edit]All Cantonments, DOHS, College, Hospital, Office and residential area which is under the Bangladesh Armed Forces is under control for development by the Military Engineer Services. This places are build develop and secured by the organisation. 12 Cadet Colleges of Bangladesh were also build and developed by this organisation.
Work
[edit]This organisation 24/7 hours give services to the Military personals. It is also responsible to provide electricity, gas, water, building and bathroom accessories, military infrastructure development and demolish secure environment to live etc and many more. This organisation got many respect from other organisations for there outstanding performance in work.
Recruitment
[edit]Every year a huge amount recruitment is published by the Bangladesh Army. This recruited is controlled and secured by the Bangladesh Army.
The Military Engineer Services of Bangladesh is a Government Organisation. So the job of this organisation is also government.
Criticism
[edit]Many Army personals thinks that Military Engineer Services is nothing to the Cantonment and to the Army. By this rumors the E in C said "Bangladesh Army is for the people for the country, though The Military Engineer Services is for the Army for the country."
Activities
[edit]MES is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all cantonments, temporary force educational institutions, organizations in Bangladesh. MES has a role in the construction of major projects of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. Some of these projects are mentioned below:[4][5]
