Chitin armor can be crafted with the Elven Smithing perk and comes in light and heavy armor variants. All items can be tempered using one piece of chitin plate. Chitin light armor is between elven and scaled armor in terms of quality. Chitin heavy armor has the same armor rating as steel plate armor, but is lighter. Morag Tong armor is a variant of chitin with more of a brown color.

Notes
- Heavy Chitin armor offers the most armor points per unit weight (1.71 armor per weight), but at a cost of 25% less defense than the best heavy armor (daedric with 108 base defense and 81 weight). Dragonplate offers a compromise between weight management and best defense with a weight of 64 and defense of 102 (1.59 apw, 94% max defense). Once you reach the armor cap, take the Conditioning perk, or activate the Steed Stone power, your choice of heavy armor becomes purely cosmetic.
