Skyrim:Chitin

Chitin armor can be crafted with the Elven Smithing perk and comes in light and heavy armor variants. All items can be tempered using one piece of chitin plate. Chitin light armor is between elven and scaled armor in terms of quality. Chitin heavy armor has the same armor rating as steel plate armor, but is lighter. Morag Tong armor is a variant of chitin with more of a brown color.

Heavy Chitin Armor

Heavy Chitin Armor offers the most armor points per unit weight (a full suit offers 1.71 armor per weight not counting the "invisible" extra 25 points that are not modified by armor skill, 3.67 with) of any heavy armor, which is of concern if you do not have the conditioning perk, care about movement speed and/or movement noise, and have not reached the point where you can escalate any suit you wear with a smithing perk to max armor.
