DescriptionMargaret Parker (nee Elligood), by Cosmo Alexander, 1771.jpg
English: Image taken from a reproduction in 'Here Be Forebears', by Helen E Babington Smith, privately published, 1997. A reference to the portrait is also contained in a private manuscript (undated, but written after 1970) called 'Notes on the Parker Family'. The 'Notes' relates the story of Capt Parker's house being burned by American rebels in 1771..."his family had to fly with only the clothes on their backs. The only thing Mrs. Parker saved was the small cream pot, which she put in her pocket. The portrait of Captain Parker and son and of Mrs. Parker, painted in 1771 by Cosmos Alexander, afterward received in a battered state, and brought home and repaired by an artist in London..." (p5)
